I vote for enclosing the south end as stated above. That would enclose the noise. Then again, we would have OSHA making OU lower the noise because it exceed the TWA for 3 1/2 hours....

Demo the West upper deck and continue the East upper deck elevation all the way around, enclosing the South End Zone, to create a bowl. A new, state of the art press box would be in the new West upper deck and each end zone would have about 210 ft. video boards. Oh, you said just one?? Sorry, once it started I couldn't stop it.

Seems like I read somewheres that enclosing the S endzone is basically impossible because the architectural aspects of the structures don't match up.

Something like that, the gist being, it ain't happenin'.

So my vote would be for...beer. Surprise. ;)

some way of blocking the sun that sets over the west side especially during afternoon/evening games. You can't see **** when the sum comes over, and you instantly take another shower (assuming you took one in the first place). I'd also bring the players over to the other side so they are right next to the student section, I bet that would create tons of momentum and excitement from the players, really get them going.

How about going back to an artificial surface? The new generation of fake turf is lights yrs ahead of the stuff torn off 20 yrs ago.

Remember the stories Barry used to tell about psyching out the other teams with the enormous crown Owen Field used to have? :D Not saying OU needs the big crown again, just wondering if Field Turf would look better...

Why the Gaylord hate ???

http://www.soonerfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=108176&highlight=Gaylord

I reiterate now what I have said before about those more-money-than-good-breeding-and-taste Fokkers.

Our stadium's proud history, its' real name a tribute to Oklahoma's fallen heroes - and the kidnapping of that name for the sake of sucking up to money is yet another reason I despise the Gaylord Fokker Family for insisting their name be on our Stadium. It WAS named to honor our Sooner Veterans. Now it's a joke. Bottom line - if the Gaylord family really didn't give a shi* about the recognition-for-a-price, they'd have insisted their name not be added - and their wishes would have been granted, bank on it.

Screw the Gaylords and their donations. It's all about the Benjamins, and Boren laid down wearing a lace nightie and loved it. Any other explanation is full of crap. For all our jokes about T. Boone, that man at least loves his alma mater, and he does more for OSU than write checks for the tax writeoff and to see his name in feet-high letters.

For almost anyone who isn't a whore for the Gaylords and any other big-name-no-account - it will always be OKLAHOMA MEMORIAL STADIUM. The men and women who bled and died for their country and for Oklahoma are the TRUE namesakes of our beloved playing area. As a military mom whose family has a long history of service, seeing "Gaylord" on Memorial just makes me ill. And I'm only one of many who feels that way.

I can't even escape that carpetbagging family even here in FL. Every time I drive on Osceola Parkway, I have to look at their over-the-top "Gaylord Palms" on the roadside.

My vote: Take "Gaylord Family" OFF OKLAHOMA MEMORIAL STADIUM.

Ok, then I'll put it in question form. Does really nobody else want the field named after the second best college football coach of all time, the coach who orchestrated the 47 game winning streak, and the coach who made OU what it is?

My family is full of vets and that ghey moniker overshadowing the Memorial part of the name bugs the carp out of all of us.

Dang! I thought we lost all our War to End All War Vets. :D Seriously, tell 'im THANKS for us.

I appreciate their contributions too; doesn't mean we wanna put their moronic-sounding name on the place. It was fine as Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. And like I pointed out, if they really wanted to be decent they'd have insisted the stadium name be left unmolested. But that sort of good character just isn't in any of them.

Son. I used it as a term of polite bantering affection. Better'n Julio Asbestos or Dip****. ;)

The field already has a name, after Bennie Owen as former coach/AD who was the driving force behind building the stadium in its current location in the first place and the first real successful coach in school history. The history of the program extends beyond Stoops, Switzer and Wilkinson.
