The best idea I heard came from Gary Johnson in the republican debate a few nights ago. Granted I'm more a libertarian and I agree with most of what he and Ron Paul say so that that FWIW.

But he basically said give all the illegals already here work visas, not full citizenship but it basically does two things. Then get rid of the federal drug war, basically treat drugs like we do alcohol. It's a lot easier for states to regulate drugs and alcohol than it is for a federal government.

I think I've suggested this before as a joke. Make going across the border a game show. Put guns, land mines. Electric fence, if a person gets across alive, they deserve citizenship.
