Not much content but a positive story for Josh.

Maybe not much content, but important content. I've read so many of these preseason or way-too-early 2011 predictions that have OU #1 and don't even mention the change at OC. That has to at least be mentioned as a question mark for the analysis to be credible.

Yeah, there was never a doubt. Ask Oklahoma's newly minted co-offensive coordinator what he'd be doing if he weren't coaching, and the answer comes only after a long pause to ponder.

"I have no idea," said Heupel, finally. "Something in marketing, I guess. That's what my degree's in, but I never planned on using it.

Funny.

I honestly thought Heupel would make an NFL roster. Maybe I'm just a homer...

I love Heupel and all but I honestly knew he wasn't

His accuracy and brain were pretty good but his arm strength and size wasn't.

Really? Not even as a back-up? I thought he would have been pretty solid there.

If Josh ahd not had the wrist problems, he would have stuck for a few years as a back-up. I talked to him at the Caravan in Houston shortly before he officially "retired". I asked if there was a chance and he said that the wrist just would not let him do the things he needed to be able to stick with the NFL.

That's right! I forgot about the wrist...

And the elbow. I saw him not long after the Title Game. May have been when they arrived back in Norman. Looked like he had a baseball on his elbow. Probably just bursitis but if it is chronic it can take a long time to get over it, if you ever do.

"which, it must be noted, throws more often and for more yards than Heupel did in his two years running Mike Leach's version of the spread"

Unless they count Mangino's first year as OC as running Leach's spead, we only ran Leach's spread one year. Also, I haven't looked it up, but there's no way we throw the ball more now as a percentage of total plays, and I really doubt we even throw it more in absolute terms.

Edit:

46 att/game in 99
44 att/game in 10
