Has anyone watched this documentary? My wife just watched it on Netflix and I got to watch about half an hour on it.

It's pretty shady, depressing, and just disgusting the practices that go in behind the scenes at the food industry and supermarket. This is a movie that everyone should give a look to and be informed on where your food comes from and the injustices that are being done the the American farmer, animals, and the environment.

for the right price, you can get someone to make a documentary on how taking a **** is a shady business and how we need to work on preventing people from ever having another bowel movement again.

I agree, but some of the laws they are passing and the way the small American farmers are being treated should be enough to make you mad. Even if you could care less about what you are eating and the way defenseless animals are being treated, people are getting royally screwed over.

And if that doesn't get people mad, the way the whole operation is being run is socialism at it's finest, so the liberal pansies don't have the be the only ones who see the injustice, the extreme conservatives can join in the fun too!

I saw it. Definitely buy it as a true documentary. There are many on here that won't, though.

I won't purport to know the inner workings of the system. But I'm not surprised that small farmers are getting the shaft. They've been getting it for years thanks to corporate farming and their ability to pay handsomely for their lobby. Farming is no different than any other business that has the capacity to be run at a corporate level. They're always going to be smashing the hell out of the little guy in the name of profits.

Do you guys realize how much money the small farmer has been making recently?

Haven't seen it. Work in the food biz. There are great companies who do things right and are clean and produce wonderful products. (a lot more attention goes into the nutrition, reduction of sodium, fat, etc than you might believe). And then there are the other guys whose plants make your eyes burn. It's like most things in life: a range.
One thing to consider that I believe is still true: if you look at how much Americans pay for food compared to our salaries, we still pay less than almost any people on earth. Food money is an afterthought for the vast majority.
You don't get to that situation without at least some application of mass production techniques.

Everybody plants fence row to fence row these days. The only land that people are getting paid not to plant on is absolutely crap ground, and they are making **** all on that compared to what it would bring if it was farmed.

It's been a couple of years since I've seen it, but I remember it being pretty objective. The only thing I could identify as possible having an agenda is the assertion that people should be more aware of what they're actually eating; and I would hardly call that an agenda.

If I remember correctly they never talked about what would happen to food costs and production numbers if we went in other directions....Monsanto is not quite the evil company that many think...

Also, farming is a capital intensive business...costs have gotten out of range of many farm families...

It is a tough business that few kids take over...

Hopefully 87 will stop by and liven things up...
