Based on health, education, infant mortality, maternal mortality, economic well-being, and average maternity leave (among other factors), the organization Save the Children (http://www.savethechildren.org/site/c.8rKLIXMGIpI4E/b.6748295/k.BE47/State_of_the_Worlds_Mothers_2011_Statistics_and_Fa cts.htm) determined that the best place to be a mother in 2011 is Norway; the worst, Afghanistan.

The United States comes in at No. 31 — in part because we have a 1 in 2,100 maternal mortality rate, "the highest of any industrialized nation," and the "least generous maternity leave policy — both in terms of duration and percent of wages paid — of any wealthy nation.

Had a buddy move to Sweden and his wife had two kids while over there. She was off something like 9 months and he got like 6.

When my kids were born I got a whole week each and that was out of my vacation time.

Our stats are being sandbagged by people of color. If we were to (for instance) count them as 3/5ths of a human, then we're back on top baybee.

USA! USA! USA!

Inequality matters.

Since Frank Zappa died, I guess Norway is as good a place as any.

An old Swedish joke:

After the terrible (and lengthy) war between Norway and Sweden the troops headed home. The Norwegian trooper was asked what was the first thing he did when he got home. He said "I ****ed my wife, then, I took off my skis."

This is getting ridiculous.
