If an F5 tornado hits Memorial Stadium (Owen Field)

Wouldnt the press box be gone? My Dad thinks that it would just lose all the windows. I think it would be gone.

We are talking direct hit.

I would say you are hypothesizing and not really arguing. Technically speaking.

The bigger question is who would win between an F5 Tornado and a Category 5 hurricane? My bet is on mini-Ditka.

If an F-5 hit it, I think the press box would definitely be gone, the video boards on both sides, and I think it's really possible the upper decks might be ripped off too.

I have trouble believing it could uproot any significant portion of the main structure, though.

Windows and the interior would be destroyed. The building would remain. Although, the PB will be the next replacement for the stadium.

lotsa folks sit there that aren't visitors. even if it was all visitor, don't you want them to have a place to sit??

they do pay.

we had season tickets in south end zone, for 2 seasons. like 89 & 90.

If Ronnell Lewis ran into an F5 tornado, would the press box be gone?

no, but the tornado would be beaten down into a dust devil.

Well, here's the guideline for damage caused by an EF5 Tornado:

Total Destruction.
Strong frame houses lifted off foundations and carried considerable distances to disintegrate; automobile sized missiles fly through the air in excess of 100 m (109 yd); trees debarked; steel reinforced concrete structures badly damaged.

So I'd say yes, the press box would be gone.

and btw, damage for an EF4 includes "Skyscrapers and highrises toppled and destroyed."

Yes, but as soon as the maintenance crew got the journalist guts off the field, the game would continue.

See Norman

Norman - Local legend has it that the city of Norman (Home to the University of Oklahoma) will never be struck by a tornado because it was built on an Indian burial ground. If you remember the big tornado that went through there in May of 1999 not one bit of Norman was touched, while neighboring Moore was hit extremely hard.

They must have moved it because we've had two in the last 2-3 years

But that was not the original Norman. Owen field is safe,

The spirit of Little Red saved the stadium.
It wasn't anywhere near the stadium. I'm just saying, it disproves the notion that a tornado will never hit Norman.

Why do you think it never got near the stadium?
