MNC/NC as both a OC/coach and as a QB.

If OU wins the MNC this year, will Heuple have any company with that achevement?

Not sure. Did Spurrier win it as a player, maybe?

Spurrier won the Heisman, 1966, i think. No NC as a player.

Jimmy Johnson, but not as a QB. He was a lineman on 1964 Arkansas team. He won MNC's at Miami and a Super Bowl with Dallas.

Minnesota actually won three in a row. Not sure if Wilkinson was there for all three.

(I think the first two were pre-AP poll era.)

Bud was a QB at Minnesota ?!?!?. For some reason, I thought he was an end.

Jimmy Johnson isn't one. Arkansas finished #2 in both major polls in 1964.

Bud Wilkinson is all I know.

Bud was a guard and quarterback at Minnesota. Quite a combination huh?

I also thought, from what I had read of him, that Bud was an offensive lineman.

Turns out that he was both. He played guard and quarterback for the Golden Gophers. In addition, apparently he also caught a few passes. Quite an athlete, our Bud! I think that he played on the offensive line in his junior / sophomore years, but unable to verify that for sure.

Arkansas is the '64 National Champ. ...Or would you rather just give it to Alabama instead? :P

He was a QB/guard/receiver? Imagine the possibilities! He must have been the ultimate player to have for the wildcat formation . . .

Both the AP & the Coaches polls did. Remember, the final polls came out before bowl games were played back then. Not terribly smart on their part, but fact is it was the system that was in play at the time.
