Is a little high right now. That's a 5 foot chain link fence. Notice my 250 gallon propane tank floating upside in the background. At normal level the shore is 200 yards from my door. Now it's on my deck and still rising. It's about 10 feet deep in the middle of the front yard. Almost 32 feet above normal.

Will all the extra rain make the fishing good? I would like to go fishing this weekend!

What? Why is this happening? Wouldn't it have drained back a bit?

Also: your deck is cool.

That would make me surly, for sure.

I shall become most surly if it rises 4 more feet and gets in the house. It's going to be a very close call between going over the spillway and coming in my door. A matter of mere inches. I have no ill will toward the folks downstream from the dam but I'm pulling for the spillway.

Seriously, I hope the water doesn't darken your doorway.

Wow...where are you on Tenkiller? My MIL lives in Pine Cove although not close enough to be in danger of flooding.

It's happening because it rained 15 inches in Northwest Arkansas in 72 hours last weekend. Monday it was rising a foot an hour.

The deck is an excellent place to get porch drunk and the view is usually quite nice.

In the vicinity of Blackgum. About 3 miles upstream from Pine Cove on the east side of the lake.

Good Ness! Thats some serious water. I'll pull for it heading over teh spillway as well. good luck and keep us posted.

Oh, and watch out for gators. I know they aren't usually around here but the rumor is some people are raising them in their own homes these days.

Turn at the church and back down in there somewhere?

I'll be rooting for the spillway as well!

I thought that was your personal boat dock.

My personal boat dock required unhooking from the walkway to prevent major damage. It is floating around nicely attached to some cables. A couple of docks in the cove have actually been pulled underwater because the walkways were too short to accommodate 32 feet above normal.

GORE -- With Lake Tenkiller rising 30 feet above normal, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has opened the main gates to the Tenkiller Dam.

A similar situation was going on a few years ago at Texoma. You guys are lucky they decided to let the water out. Probably the only reason they could was because the rest of Oklahoma was so down and isnt realeasing water right now.

BudSooner

We were down at the entrance to Cherokee earlier just to see how bad the flooding was, the water is now almost up to the entrance to the highway. If you are familiar with the bridge leading from there to Elk Creek, well the water is amost up to the bridge, I would guess that the water is about 25 feet or less to the bridge now.

Petite Bay is in bad shape, a woman I work with and her husband run the marina there, the water is less than 10 feet from her front door.

I'm sick of the rain, having to work out in it, navigating roads that cannot handle the runoff and needing to find a detour....it has really sucked this week.

How about an update cap't? Hope the water stopped risen.

It crested at 663.34 feet at 7 a.m. this morning. That's about a foot higher than the pictures. Down to 663.27 at 3 p.m. The problem is more rain forecast for tomorrow and Sunday, possibly into Monday. .89 inches of rain across the entire watershed and we hit 667 which is the level of the spillway.

I don't think we'll be out of the woods for weeks.

I certainly appreciate everyone's concern.

My old stomping grounds. Hope y'all dry out soon, Cap'n.

When we lived in WA state, it POURED off and on, with measurable rain for 44 straight days. I'm still amazed I didn't strangle someone at some point. I hate rain. I'm sending some sunny vibes that way!! ;)

If you ever hung out at Boy Scout Point you drove right by my place. The property has been in my wife's family for years. My wife is from Muldrow and her mother retired as a teacher there. You probably knew my wife's son in school. Small world.
