What a quagmire. Barry is clearly a failure on defense

"They [drones] will kill more civilians and this is very sad," Khaled Khaim told the BBC. "It's for the Libyans to choose their destiny - not by sending more weapons or more air strikes, or more money and weapons to the rebels."

Immutable truth: You can't efficiently or safely conduct air strikes on bad guys in close proximity to good guys without eyes on. And those eyes must be in the head of a trained controller on the ground who is imbedded with the good guys.

This Libyan mess is indeed a mess because: a) we don't know for sure who the good guys are; b) BHO is trying to conduct airstrikes on people in close proximity to other people without the beneft of trained controllers on the ground; c) no matter who wins, the one's left standing will still hate us.

Do us a favor Mr. President. Please don't embroil us in any more arab civil wars and spend vast amounts of US money (borrowed, by the way) on such foolishness.

So, let me understand this. In the 80's when we in the US armed the afghanistani Taliban rebels against the Russians, Bush's face was rubbed in it. Pictures of Rumsfeld shaking hands with Saddam Hussein in the early 80's, again was paraded out as a Bush failure.

The world changes. Often the " enemy of my enemy is my friend" applies, especially when trying to keep oil prices in check with mid east stability.

No, no, no. The thing to do, is arm both sides and let them kill each other so we don't have to. E.g. Ee gave Saddam arms for his war against Iran, while we sold arms to the Iranians to fund the CIA war in Nicaragua.

It was beautiful. At least a million dead between Iran and Iraq comibined. Those Iraqis, had they lived, would have been opposed to us when we had to go and expel Saddam from Kuwait.

Luckily, unemployment is low, the economy is now booming, real estate is going up, oil prices are low as are food prices, and we are closer than ever to peace in the Middle East...

I don't see how anyone could possibly defend a refusal to act on behalf of the UN and NATO, the same 2 organizations that we plead to (and summarily misinformed, whether we knew it or not) in order to start that other war in the sand.

No. Although the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs is publicly stating we've found "no evidence the people we're backing have ties to Al-Q or UBL." of course, he has to say that, whether its true or not, if he wants to keep his job.

In case anyone's keeping score, so far, we've blown 159 UGM-109 ship-launched "Tomahawk" cruise missiles against Libyan targets...at $600K each. That's not to mention to cost of keeping the naval task force on station and what this mission is costing the USAF.

Here's how. We've wasted 159 Tomahawk cruise missiles. The Brits have fired 2. Those things cost $600K each. It's all well and good to be a part of a NATO coalition, but the member countries need to ante-up.

And to think, some people wonder why the Euros can afford to provide universal health care to their people. The above is precisely why. Put another way, Euros don't have to spend anything on their own defense because we cover it for them. Leaving money to spend on their welfare states.

Actually, that should have been asked of G.W. Bush. He had to finish what he felt his daddy couldn't finish. Then he listened to Cheney, the Cryptkeeper, who saw a chance to line his own pockets and his Haliburton cronies.

I tend to agree with you especially considering your wealth on knowledge in this area. I was thinking we kind of screwed up when we did that and when the Pubs started using it as a political trap and Obama put his Administration in a position to have to ask Congress to support him spending money while they were arguing over how they were going to keep the gov't open....I was flabbergasted.

This Drone thing though...I understand your position of having eyes on the ground....

Is it possible that we do have CIA or Hired guns on the ground? Bush did hire lots of folks to help in Iraq. Surely we have folks who would go in there for money and give us the intel we need to make the drones effective?

I know Obama said he wouldn't put boots on the ground...but I find it hard to believe we don't have someone in there if John McCain felt comfortable enough to take a trip in there.

Just asking....

I'm stealing a technique from Rush Limbaugh. It's called acting absurd to illustrate absurdity. I am doing to Obama with this war what the left did to W in their outright hope for failure in Iraq. Hell, remember when the Senate Majority Leader claimed we had lost the war?

That's all I am doing. Payback is a b*tch aint it? It's Obama's turn
