following is a summary of what happened this past year. in the Zhari district of Afghanistan (an area roughly 10 km by 10 km) 40% of the volatile activity in the entire country took place in this 10 by 10 area. IT WAS CONSIDERED THE MOST DANGEROUS PLACE ON EARTH.

this area was the birth place of the taliban. it was the home of the taliban. it was where they lived, breathed, ate, and planned their attacks. the 101st Airborne went in there this past summer and kicked their back sides. one of the 101st units (nicknamed the black hearts) put fear in the hearts of the taliban. some reports have stated that in the villages, when a taliban (who were mingled in with the population) saw a black heart, he would hide his weapon and get the he!! out of town.

my son was part of this. he was part of history. i am so proud of the work the men and women of the 101st did. they are truly American Heros. they went into the valley of the shadow of death, and they emerged victors. 1 out of 5 of the 101st who served in 2010 were either wounded or killed. (bet no one saw this stat on fox, cnn, or cbs)

GOD BLESS THE 101ST, AND GOD BLESS AMERICA.

i have all the confidence in the world that the 10th mountain division will continue the success. good luck.

AND MY SON IS ON HIS WAY HOME!!!!

Not to be all Debbie Downer, but being on a travel manifest does not equal a seat on the bird home. It just means he's cleared to depart. It may take a while.

that can be a long trip home. It took me like 6 travel days to get from FOB nowhere to bagram to kuwait to germany to DFW to home. The only thing I wanted was a shower and a change of clothes after that trip.

edit: although if he is with his unit I guess he could go into kyrgy instead of kuwait. I forgot.
