Cinci Reds pitcher Chapman yesterday against the Pirates. He pitched a couple guys that went something like 103, 103, 96. Then 101, 106:eek: , 101 and I forget from there.
Can you imagine trying to hit that!

I was pertty sure Nolan Ryan could hit 100+ not sure if they had Radar back in his prime. Also the Rocket - but maybe he was high 90s for his entire career.

The new kid from the Washington DC team who got hurt was up there around 105 ish.

I seem to remember Nolan tossing 102 to103 when he was with the Rangers

I think Nolan still holds the Guinness Book WR at just over 100 from the 70's. I guess GBWR haven't certified any of the others.

Probably does steroids....I could modify my arm to be a robot arm and throw 300 mph.

I read somewhere that "officially" his top speed yesterday was 102. 106 was displayed on the ballpark scoreboard.

They were hand-timed at 768 mph, and verified by the shock wave.

Way to rain on my parade! :D
I wonder how they get the "official" numbers when the two guns they had in the park said 105 and 106?
Regardless, 10 out of 15 over 100mph,6 of those 101 and 2 were 102. That's still scary fast!

You would use it on the jerkoffs who pay you money for your Opinion? At least then they would be getting something for their money. :D :pop:

They have multiple systems recording the flight of the ball. Radar gun, video tracking (pitchf/x), and trackman are the ones I know of. Probably multiple radar guns too. All of those things give slightly different results. They also have calibration issues too. I'm not sure what their procedure is for determining the official number. I have a couple of friends in the front offices of a couple of teams...I'll see if they know.

I know that Strasburg hit 103 several times last year and did it in multiple ballparks. I wonder if those were reduced later by the methodology Ike explained?

106 miles per hour fastballs reminds me of Florida football fans on here before the national title game telling us they had 5 guys running under 4.3 40's...
