Pros: cheap, my wife wants it, under 55k miles, it would get great mileage...

Cons: it is being sold in an estate auction (probably cannot test drive it), where would I be able to get inevitable repairs/ spare parts...

It is a convertible. This could be a pro and/or con. But it is part of the appeal.

Wife saw it in one of those auction ads in the local paper. We may show up at the auction, glance at it, and be gone. Or we may be tempted to stay and bid.

What words of wisdom do my SO peers have?

What!!???
No pics! What is it?

Generally a bad idea, as no parts available, unless common in the junk yard.

I would do a ton of research on the make/model, known issues, value, etc. beforehand. Which I guess is what you're doing.. :D

Oh, and set a price ceiling before you get there.

What the hell is No Parts carp?

Parts will be plentiful unless its a ****in Delorean and even then ya can get em

Any decent shop should be able to do the repairs, Hell You can do most of the Minor stuff your self

If you get it, Change all the fluids , Belts and Hoses.

The Top will prolly give ya fits, But any good Auto Upholstery shop should be able to replace it
If yer handy you may even be able to get one from J.C. Whitney and install it yerself
Good luck

I didn't want to tell SO what it was because I figure I'll be rightly made fun of... but bear in mind, we had a similar car back in the late 80s/early 90s... that's probably one of the reasons why my wife wants it, because it brings back some good memories...

it's a 91 Geo Metro.... :)

She's your Wife.

You better get it.

Roll the dice.

However....remember....It's an Auction. She might think she's going to get it cheap. Agree on a price and don't go over it.

well, the wife just emailed, I guess she called the auction company... says the car starts & runs, the back window is out...

I don't know. Letting somebody else have this as a project sounds better the more I think about it...
