No, you never get aces during a midweek game. That's part of the reason why we're so good midweek. :D

But we did face their closer who had an ERA of 0.52 in 34 innings of work and hadn't allowed a run in 10 innings. We scored three runs off him in his one inning pitched last night.

The kid that started last night actually opened the year as their closer, but struggled in that role and got moved to mid-week starter.

A couple of things from last night: Max White is quite possibly the worst defensive player in the history of Oklahoma Baseball. How about that cannon in the 8th?

I like CJ in the leadoff spot. He's aggresive at the plate, but he knows what a strike is, too. Despite what this team displays most of the time, the two aren't mutually exclusive. Actually, last night's lineup might be the best one we've filled out in a while, assuming we flip Bushyhead and Buechele.

And this is coming from somone who thought whiskey and a dartboard we're involved with filling out the lineup before the game.

You've heard of five-tool players? Max White is a one-tool player ... and that tool (power) hasn't really been seen much this season. At this point, I gotta think he's been relegated to the right-handed pinch-hitter role. Right now, he's more "Minimum Black" that Max White.

CJ did look good there last night and has looked good over the past few games. But I'm not ready to buy into him AT ALL. Too much track record against it. If he's still hitting and playing like this a month from now, then I think about it, but until then I'm gonna cringe everytime he's at the plate expecting him to strand yet another runner at third with less than two outs.
