Disgraced politician John Edwards is said to be deeply depressed - to the point of being suicidal - over the prospect of a criminal trial that could end with him being jailed if found guilty.

The 57-year-old former Presidential candidate reportedly told a close friend: 'I won't go to jail. I'd kill myself first!'

He has lost 20lb in the last year and is a 'broken spirit,' reports the National Enquirer.

Actually the bottom picture might not be far from the truth.

When in the military and stationed in Ft. Walton Beach, FL, I played a lot of golf at the base course (hard night shifts). Frequently playing the military league on weekday afternoons, I would see the same guy, sitting under the same tree, many days in a row.
I asked the pro...he said it was a former Gov. of a southern state who was serving minimum prison time. Light color and weight clothes; straw hat; he looked comfortable. Toooo comfortable. :rolleyes:
Seems the inmates were supposed to be some of the general labor on the golf course.
