View Full Version : Would you be for adding another game this year?

First off, I don't even know if you can add another to make it 13 games played before bowl game.

Of course we usually play 14 games when we play in the Big12 Title game.

8 conference
4 non-conference
1 big 12 title game
1 bowl game

Why is it just assumed that we will now have to play 9 conference and only 3 non-conference?

Is it against the rules to play 13 games, without a conference championship game? I know during the 2002-2003 season, Ohio St went 14-0?

Why not add another cup-cake and make it 7 home games in Norman.

I like the bye week we have before FSU

as do i.... but could we add another game at the end of the season? I hear that it is possible that they could move Bedlam to the weekend of the SEC championship?

Could put a game in there?

who knows.... just offseason talk here.

I'm pretty sure there is a limit to the number of games there can be for the regular season. Conference championship games are not regular season games and neither are bowl games.

Also, any team that plays Hawaii (or is it the teams that play AT Hawaii) get an extra regular season game. Did Ohio State play Hawaii that year?

No, they didn't play Hawaii, but they did play 5 out of conference games  I'm not sure why the hell that would be, but I'm assuming it was a scheduling aberration. But to JLEW's question, I'm not sure if they could, but why the hell would they? This, of all years, is the year we wouldn't want to be unnecessarily adding games.

tOSU's game vs. TTU that year was the Pigskin Classic, & back then those pre-season classic games did not count against your total game limit.

you can play as many games as you want.

BYU played 13 regular season games in 1996. Played a conference title game and a bowl game, going 14-1.

KSU in 2003 finished with an 11-4 record playing 5 OOC games (2 which were 1AA squads in McNeese State and Massachusetts).

I am all for one extra game.

And why would we want to play another game at the end of the season if we have a national title game coming up? Is tht extra week of game practice going to be more valuable to us than another week of practice for whomever we are going to play for the NC? Not to mention the risk to losing players to injury.

I wonder if this was redone once the FCS/FBS names came into effect?

I think those BCA Classic and Hispanic Heritage Whatever games were considered "pre-season" games. IIRC, OU-UNC in 2001 was one of those instances.

i think 1970 was the 1st year that 11 games were allowed & recently (last 2 to 4 years) it was raised to 12.

don't need to add another "patsy", nothing to gain (except money) & everything to lose. injuries & possibly the game.

i don't really enjoy those type games. but that's just me.

Im all for not adding another.

It gives us an ectra week to prepare for whoever, and as long as we WIN our SOS will be high enough as it stands.

They still counted towards the overall record. KSU has played 15 games in one season a couple of times, and I think a couple of other schools have, too. Ohio State played 14 the year they won the National Title, and that was without a conference title game.

Need to schedule Hawaii @ Hawaii. We get a destination road trip + we can tack on a extra home game :pop:

Sure, I want Notre Dame at home. It would be fun to blast them, so they would know they haven't been relevant in many years.

I think the NCAA limited schedules to 12 games. They did that because of teams like K-State and a few others (Ohio St, BYU) were trying to schedule 14 plus games a season.

The NCAA can make exceptions and allow extra games but there is a set number of regular games it will allow. The reg I quoted was from the 2010 NCAA regs.

12 games it is... i knew there most likely had to be some type of rule to that.

Thanks for the help!
