Dish DVR to computer?

What type of computer hardware and software would one need in order to burn good quality DVD's off of a (Dish) DVR? I've used DVD recorders in the past. But my "Mercedes" of recorders no longer works, and I'd like to be able to edit, custom insert chapters, etc., more effectively than current DVD recorders apparently allow.

I have two computers, one running XP and one running Windows 7, but neither presently has a card for inputting TV/DVR signals.

I am assuming you want to connect it to your computer so you can save to Hard Drive and then burn DVDs?

If so, you need a card/adapter that will allow for you to connect to the DVR.
