Yesterday one of the pundits on the radio put forth the theory that Terry Evans was interviewed to be the main 'assistant coach' for the new coach. Only posting it for what its worth which is probably nothing.

I have KREF on here at the house while I am working -- work out of my home -- run a political blog(s) along with working for campaigns with a good friend out of Florida. We won all our races this time compared to 2008 which was BAD! It was on the other radio sports channel which I do not listen to but have a son and friends that do who let me know what was being said.

Working out of my home gives me a chance to check in here during the day to find out the latest! Recently I have been doing that a lot! :)

His UNLV contract I think goes through 2012.

According to this, (http://www.lvrj.com/sports/7934472.html) we could probably be paying about what we were paying Capel to draw him here, about $1.5, which would be a pay bump over the $1 mil (ish) he makes annually.

But you know what else he'll get? $316,755 to recruit, reportedly allegedly, etc. etc. :D

Yes, we had the fifth-highest recruiting budget in the nation, according to this. (http://www.cardchronicle.com/2011/3/25/2072515/louisville-recruiting-budget-ranks-among-top-10-nationally-1-in-big) Capel must have dialed a lot of wrong numbers or boarded the wrong planes or something

NORMAN – Oklahoma athletic director Joe Castiglione says there is no deal currently with UNLV coach Lon Kruger to become the next head man at OU.

"No idea what anyone is saying about anyone," Castiglione responded in a text message to the Tulsa World this afternoon. "We have a shot at (Kruger), but it is far from done."

Barring a late snag in the process, however, Kruger is expected to become Sooners coach, a source has confirmed to the World.

Kruger is in Houston for this weekend's Final Four/college basketball coaches convention activities. OU athletic director Joe Castiglione is expected to arrive today, where presumably he would finalize a deal.

Kruger is known to have been in the mix at different times during Castiglione's nearly three-week search. A source with knowledge of the search told the World earlier this week that Kruger had dropped out of contention, while the Las Vegas Sun reported Kruger had turned down an interview request.

Just this morning, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported Kruger "turned down an opportunity to move beyond informal discussions" with OU before leaving for Houston.

Castiglione, however, kept his pursuit as dalliances with other targets ended with those coaches staying with their current programs.

The Sun reports it took a third offer for Kruger to swing OU's way.

The 58-year-old Kruger just completed his seventh season at UNLV, where he coached the Rebels into their fourth NCAA Tournament over the past five years. UNLV finished
24-9 after a first-round loss to Illinois in Tulsa.

Kruger's college career also includes stops at Texas-Pan American (1982-86), alma mater Kansas State (86-90), Florida (90-96) and Illinois (96-00). From Illinois, Kruger moved on to the NBA from 2000-03. He was a Knicks assistant in 03-04, before returning to the college game in Las Vegas.

Kruger went 161-71 at UNLV to make him 479-304 over 25 seasons as a college coach. He underwent open-heart sextuple bypass surgery in August of 07, but was back on the Rebels sideline for the 07-08 season.

A native of Silver Lake, Kan., Kruger led Kansas State to back-to-back Big 8 Conference championships in 1972-73. He was an Academic All-American, and he remains the Wildcats' 14th all-time leading scorer with 1,063 points.

By 1978, he was back in Manhattan as an assistant under Jack Hartman. He remained on staff until taking his first head coaching job at Pan American.

The Sooners have been without a coach since Castiglione fired Jeff Capel on March 14.

C'mon Badger...Capel had 1 yr at 30 wins (and that was due to having the best player in the country and a very good support around him - which HE made look great sometimes.)...it's more the DIRECTION the program was going...

I know that sounds 2-faced...players win, coaches lose...well..coaches RECRUIT...that was the issue...imho.

I like that he seems to like football. Should provide some cool tie-ins with football season. I'm sure Stoops' family will show up to support him and his team at games as well (and Sherri too)

i would rather we got buzz....but kruger is a good second choice.

the folks fretting about no one being interested in the job can now relax.

this is a HUGE upgrade over the previous regime...as i predicted;)
should also put to rest the question if capel should have gotten another year.

I dont' think there was much interest but money talks.

for 3 million I'd coach Lebron.

Reading UNLVs articles and comments section they call them the "Walking" Rebs. Greeeat.

To be fair though, it seems alot of them were not happy to see him go. They said he was a solid x's and o's coach, just that the offense was anemic at times.

I just hope he can recruit.

They averaged 72ppg as a team, only scored less than 60 once, and scored 80 or 90 nine times

His offense a 4 guard set. They have between 75-85 points.

His recruiting...well he just got UNLV the #16 recruiting class (from what I hear)in the nation. Hope some of them come with him.

Kruger has proven he can win and I've never heard of his teams having any problems with the NCAA. It might not be Tom Izzo or Brad Stephens but he is at worst a solid hire and could be a very good one. I sure prefer Kruger to rolling the dice on Shaka or Terry Evans.

We're bringing him in for his marketing skills too. Seriously. He took an active interest in that with UNLV and they had very good attendance. He should definitely look into this cheerleading idea...just maybe not with that one cheerleader that everyone likes to post a picture of...:O

and this

Kruger just completed his seventh season at UNLV where he compiled a record of 161-71. He took the Runnin' Rebels to the NCAA Tournament in four of the last five seasons after the program appeared in only two of the previous 15 tournaments, and also achieved UNLV's first national ranking since 1992-93. Over the past five seasons, Kruger's teams have posted a .743 winning percentage (127-44) and have averaged 25.4 wins. His 2006-07 squad won 30 games and advanced to the Sweet 16.

I just looked at UNLV's class on rivals and I don't see how it could be #16. It's about like our recruiting class. Kruger can do plenty of things well, but he isn't going to be a big-time recruiter. That's why he's stayed out of NCAA trouble...

I recall that 93-94 Final Four Florida team. That was a great game against Duke even though they lost. I remember their big center very subtely elbowing Grant Hill about ten feet through the air without the refs seeing. The timing was so perfect and the look on Hill's face was priceless. Don't know if that was coaching, but if any of that team's attitude was his, it could be very entertaining the next few years.
