If you have nice collections like that I don't see a problem. It's if you think you're stacks of boxes in every room is a collection, then you've got a problem. I've seen ones where they have to throw out nice collections of stuff just because it's in every room.

Doesn't beer in a can have a limited shelf life, something like 3 months?

That dude needs to get drinking them up. If I had his email address, I'd offer to help him clear the clutter.

I'm a hoarder of canned and bottled food, most of it was imported from the US. I guess I am just paranoid about some natural diaster or political upheaval. There is no telling how old some of it was when I bought it. Talk about the slow boat to China. So much of it has gone bad and I have had to throw it away over the last year that it sickens me. If I stay in Thailand for another two months and eat that crap everyday, there is still no way that I can clear even a small part of the remainder that may still be good. It is an addiction, really.

as long as its kept cool, out of light, and vacuum sealed, it'll keep forever.

the budweiser "born on date" is just a marketing ploy designed to make you think beer is fresher if its newer. it doesnt matter a bit.

My ex wife was a hoarder. The thing about hoarders is they are all screwed up when it comes to how they value things. They think things have value when they don't have any value. In fact, the things they value are destroying value in the life of the hoarder. My ex wife said she saw potential in all that crap and didn't want the potential of her stuff to be wasted by getting rid of it.

I think it all boils down to anxiety. I think hoarders often go through something very stressful and that creates anxiety that sends them off into hoarding. I think that if you could reduce the anxiety they wouldn't hoard so much. Reducing the anxiety is (much) easier said than done unfortunately. They have to want to get better.
