Roy was born in Virginia, so technically not a yankee. He grew up in Staten Island, meh. But he lived for a long time in Oklahoma, so he's redeemed.

C&CDean

Like hell. He's even in the airport right by Mickey Mantle, James Garner, and Wilma Mankiller.

I thought he was from Tulsa. I met him 30 some odd years ago, when he came to Lawton to welcome Pres. Gerald Ford to town. He was an Okie at that time.

(A Side Note) Ford got off of Air Force One and said, "its good to be here in Lawton, Texas.

No, he only word-stumbled on that trip. He actually flew into Lawton for the night before flying to Dallas the next day to toss the coin for the OU-shorthorn game. This was during the time that presidents didn't really like going to Dallas.

I played 9 holes at a pro-am with Roy Clark in Tulsa when I was 10. Very cool guy. He had blue cowboy boots studded on the soles with the biggest golf spikes I've ever seen.

Speaking as a pedigreed fourth-generation Okie, I would agree Dean-o. The only thing that would give you more Okie cred would be if you blew up your barn cooking meth.:D

You cut me to the quick. I am an honest Okie. If I blow up my barn it will be by a) welding too close to the propane tank, b) welding too close to the hay barn, or c) farting too close to the wood burning stove.

Why's that?

Speaking of Gerald Ford, he played in the same celebrity pro-am. And this was right about 30 years ago. Maybe it was part of the same week when they were both in Lawton

This and the Gerald Ford talk made me wonder. I took alot of pics that day but couldn't remember if I had pics that showed Roy's golf boots.......

The spikes were an inch long or more, he could've strolled up Mt. Everest in these things.

This is Roy and my friend's dad who got me on for 9 holes:

Ford & SS agent on the putting green:

http://img703.imageshack.us/img703/3703/geraldford1.gif

Ford was president at the time. He had a golf cart with the presidential seal on the sides & front. SS agents were all over the place, this is the one pic I have of him without an agent leering back at me:

http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/8003/geraldford2.gif

Also I got Jerry Pate's autograph, which I thought was a big deal. He was the "next Jack Nicklaus" candidate-of-the-month at the time. I think Hal Sutton was the next in line. Pate was good, but not *that* good.
