Interesting...

He's listed at 6'3 on Rivals so let's say he's 6'2 and about 205-210. Probably a good move for the team because they are sick with talent at WR...

The problem is Gilbert Grape throwing them the ball

Herr Scholz
3/24/2011, 10:28 AM
Last year he was playing WR at 6'3" and 230 lbs. Apparently he's bigger than that now. He'll be playing H-back and special teams probably since we've got the depth at WR. Plus his hands aren't that great. He won't be a RB. That's ridiculous.

They have a lot of young unproven talent at WR.

Davis is the only proven threat.

So is he taking the route of so many Big 12 rival stars before us... getting too heavy to play at one position, so constantly moving up the chain till they're at the fattest position possible?

I think Jorvorskie Lane started as like an A&M skinny waterboy or something, right? :D

Yep, pretty much. And the only RB we took in the '09 class Chris Whaley is splitting time this Spring between H back and DE because he's 250+. Although Henry Melton made that move as well and is doing pretty well for the Chicago Bears at DT right now.

There's no panic going on, just a feeling out process by the new coaches, trying to put the players in the best positions to succeed.

Mack has never had a single ST coach. It's always been a combined effort from the staff.

True. Marquis Goodwin is decent though (running track right now) and Desean Hales, Darius White, John Harris and Chris Jones have all been making plays this Spring, especially Harris. And we've got a couple more coming this summer including Jaxon Shipley.

KantoSooner

Mack will work out a presentable team. He's a good enough coach and the team has too much natural talent not to be at reasonably good.

It's my contention that the core problem last year was Mudchump. And he's gone now (hopefully to curse Florida with five years or so of FAIL (imagine Will coming into the house of Saban, can you say 'Woodshed'?)).

Doh doh doh, we have access to the greatest coaching recruits in the nation here in Texas, but can only have nine coaches as per NCAA rules. That's why schools like Oklahoma can steal our Texas coaching recruits. :mack:

Texas had arguably the worst receivers in the league last year. Those guys were just abysmal. Recruit rankings notwithstanding, there is a dearth of talent at the offensive skill positions for Texas. They better pray that some of those freshmen can make plays, or they're looking at another 5-7, 6-6 type year.

I agree. Kirkendoll, Goodwin, Chiles and Williams really disappointed. Davis is a good one though. I'm hoping the young guys I mentioned step up and Goodwin has a better year.

We've got RB and WR talent on campus (albeit inexperienced). I think you'll be surprised with Jeremy Hills, Desean Hales and John Harris in particular. And I think Fozzy will flourish in this new offense.

Forgot about speedster DJ Monroe too. He's also running track right now. I think Harsin will be able to get him the ball more than the ultra creative GD.

And yes, I hope we'd be able to average more than 24 points a game this year. Shouldn't be hard.

It will be interesting if ** is up a few touchdowns if he understands you have to keep running that offense. In other words pouring it on. If he goes the conservative "milk the clock". That whole thing can backfire on you because your D is gonna be on the field a bunch. I can't wait.

Going by last year's results, they were a better road team than they were at DKR. From what I have heard about how the student section wanders in well after kickoff, and then are pretty blase no matter what is happening on the field, maybe the whorns are a team that doesn't play well till they hear the roar of a crowd.

Muno
3/24/2011, 07:40 PM
The H back isn't really a running back in that offense. They are used more like a TE and really just in their to pass block and catch the ball. He isn't going to get a bunch of carries like a RB.

It might be different if you had a nasty home-field advantage but you don't. Pretty much all your fans agree: DKR is an unintimidating, relatively quiet mausoleum full of old "down in front!" codgers and one of the weakest, gayest, uninterested student sections in college football.

Herr Scholz please come back! Please!
I am so wanting to debate w/ you re your "opinions".
Then again I can't blame you if you don't.
When you had to resort to the "our stadium's bigger" agrument you do understand you were acknowledging you are desperate. I am quite certain DKR has more capacity than the home stadiums of each of the 7 teams that beat you last year.
Clearly, that is a sad admission that in regards to anything that matters on the field of play you are as nutless as bevo.
But please come on back to Soonerfans real soon.
