So is Star Trek.

If it would work I'd be all for it.

Sad thing is there's nothing new under the sun and human nature and history dictates that there will always be those that will take advantage. Absolute power and all that.

Many of my leftist friends point to Star Trek and such when it comes to socialism/communism/etc. and I just laugh. People aren't ready for that and our politicians are a great example. We're too much of a "me" society.

Money is outlawed, people work for the betterment of humanity, and we're all getting along going forth together as one? Don't see it. Well, not now in our current state.

I seriously wouldn't see anything remotely close to that happening until a major war broke out and at least a billion people died. You might get people to wake up then.

As he said in that Youtube video, a civilization going from 0 to 1 is the most dangerous. Makes sense when you think about it.

So is Star Trek.

ok i'll bite... i'm a big star trek nerd...

what made the global society possible in the ficticious star trek universe was the invention of replicator technology, that eliminated the need for a monetary system.

Obviously you're not THAT big of a nerd ;)

If you remember First Contact Earth just got out of World War III. There were few governments, many dead, and lots of factions scattered. Once humanity discovered warp drive and the Vulcans made First Contact, humanity was able to come together knowing they're not alone and able to go out into the galaxy united.

Come on GKeeper you're letting a Star Wars nerd school you in Star Trek :D

it was transporter technology, and the subsequesnt adaptation of transporter tech into replicator tech, the brought all the "factions" together. the invention of warp technology only alerted other warp capable races to our existence. it was almost a hundred years after the vulcans made first contact that star fleet was formed.

What's crazy is allot of the stuff talked about is already being built and experimented on.

it was science fiction writers that first conceived the ideas of things like cell phones, space shuttles, cloning, and so much more stuff than i could possibly name here.

science fiction has always been my favorite literature, because the people that write it are true visionaries.

o and about the how to make a lightsaber... in the hands of a human being, it is a far inferior weapon than any modern handgun. what makes it so lethal in the star wars universe is the superhuman abilities of a jedi.

MR2-Sooner86

Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid.

GKeeper316
3/22/2011, 10:42 PM
unless you're a force wielder with pre-cognitive abilities and super reflexes that allow you to move out of the way of a blaster bolt, or use your lightsaber to deflect said blaster bolt back at the guy that shot it at you.

the only time han solo shot a blaster at a force wielder, it didnt end well for han solo, did it????
