Colorado's non-conference schedule was kind of weak and their RPI was way too high. That's the argument I have heard for why they did not get in. I personally thought they deserved to get in over teams like VCU, UAB, and USC.

one of the play-in teams is 17-17...another 19 - 16....Buffs are better than that..

Doesn't someone at Princeton know that when down 2 with 2 seconds left you might have a better chance inbounding the ball closer to the basket you have to shoot at instead of five feet from the guy inbounding the ball?

Weak play call and effort...better chance chucking it down the court and hoping you possess it for a good shot.

3/19/2011, 09:49 AM
Based on these issues (LV's hair, second-not-first round, play-in games for 12 seeds, this one goes down as the worst March Madness ever!

Now, as to brackets, I went a miserable 22-10 in the first round.

I don't feel too bad incorrectly picking Vanderbilt, Lousiville, Michigan State and Penn State (four losses by a combined 8 points) or even Villanova (a 4-point loss) because such tight margins could have easily gone the other way, but what was I thinking with UNLV and Xavier (11-point losses), St. Johns and Missouri (15-point losses) and the worst, Georgetown (an 18-point loss)? And the real damage done comes from the losers I had going on past the 2nd round.

Did anyone pick Duke (a 42-point winner) to lose their game?

LiveLaughLove
3/19/2011, 11:27 AM
Today it's GO Kentucky, UConn, Wisconson, Gonzaga, Florida, Temple (not sure what Im thinking there), and Butler (REALLY not sure what I was thinking there. I think my wife slipped me some drugs when I made my bracket) for as near a perfect day as I can have!!!

I dont have Richmond or Morehead in their game, so auto loss there. :(

Of course, if Butler wins, then I knew it all along. ;P

They need to get rid of all the play-in games, and force the WAC and Mountain West champs to play each other for the one automatic bid that they should be getting between them. They're the ones that caused all this mess when they split up.

The first one he had a legitimate chance at getting a shot up, and Butler earned every bit of that foul. Butler just got a "make-up" call. That was ridiculous.

I don't like these types of calls at the end of the game either...but after watching the replays they both were clearly fouls. Pitt player clearly hacked the dude on the arm on the rebound.

jkjsooner
3/19/2011, 09:22 PM
Those weren't bad calls. They were WTF were the players thinking moments.

I knew in 7th grade not to foul 35 or 90 feet away from the basket in that situation. It's the first thing that should pop in your head before the play even happens.

How many times have these kids heard their coach (from grade school on) scream "don't foul don't foul don't foul don't foul"?

I thought the Butler guy was dumb but the Pitt player managed to make an even dumber play - further from the basket, even less time on the clock, and not learning from his opponent's stupidity.

OUmillenium

Two points:

1. I read somewhere that this is to force the lowest seeded automatic birth teams and the lowest seeded at-large teams into the play-in game. In some ways that makes sense because one could argue that these teams are the least deserving of being in the tournament.

2. On your point about #16 never winning a game, that isn't the point. The point is that the NCAA wants to give conference champions automatic bids. By adding another play-in game, you are not adding another #16 team (even if the game is between #16 seeds). You are allowing one more at-large birth which is generally a #12 seed.

If you don't have that play-in game between 16 seeds (all of which are automatic), both of those teams would be 16 seeds in different regions. One of the current 16 seeds would be a 15 seed. The one left out isn't the automatic births but a 12 seed (or whatever it happens to be).

Your argument against 16 seeds never winning games is more an argument against automatic qualifiers than it is about a play-in game.

1. 3rdgen (37)
2. sooner28 (35)
3. Boomer... (36)
4. SoonerSnook (34)
5. badger (35)
5. Thunderstruck (35)
7. Dingo (35)
7. Ike (35)
7. Two of Sooner95's brackets (35)

You get more points for later round games, hence some people have more correct but fewer points.

Every year I do two joke brackets - one that picks all first round round upsets (except 1 seeds, because 16 seeds NEVER win) and then end up with someone like Utah State as the national champ after a bunch more upsets. I also do one where the highest seed always wins, which is the bracket in fifth place right now.

Wisconsin may be the worst team in the history of the tournament to win 25 games. They were just embarassingly bad. It's never a good sign when you start a ginger with a fro, and basically every one of their players was about as good as that they looked (Read: Awful).

Oh well, I have Florida in the final four, and they should have no problem dispatching Butler.

I'd go with 2. It's very possible one could get knocked off, but I think the odds of both of them getting knocked off are pretty close to 0. I will say that Kentucky is talented enough to do it and the Richmond game seems a little UNI-esque, though.

Two I hope -- Have Kansas and Ohio State left. Wouldn't shock me to see them both go down and I have no one left in the final four of any teams I picked. I loved losing the Duke pick for the Final Four.

My bracket is a shambles with only Kansas left to generate any points. Interesting point about the seeding of the teams they have faced. Next up will be 11th seed VCU, which had to scrape and claw to get past FSU in OT. I don't see them being any better than any of the other three teams KU has beaten by double-digit margins.

SoonerMom2
3/26/2011, 12:47 PM
Kansas is the only team I have left as well. Who would have thought VCU would even be in the Elite 8. Without Kansas a lot of people would have no one according to the ESPN brackets where Kansas is by far the most popular left that was picked to win it all.

Kansas is my last team in the tournament and don't care if they lose. The lack of fouls called on Kansas is horrible. KS may come back but I will never pick them to win again -- never, ever.

If I was a ref, I would call an intentional foul on Kansas on the last foul where they pushed the guy out of bounds.

Reminded why I don't like Kansas!

i have felt that the refs have helped VCU out more than KU. When KU got within 2, refs called 2 straight horrible calls against KU to steal away momentum.

It's quiet as a mouse here in Lexington, Kentucky. People went wild after UK unexpectedly got to the Final Four. I've never seen so much blue in all my life. I think folks are disappointed, but still pleased with the Final Four appearance, and like OU fans, like their chances next season. I don't think any UK players are going to go early.
