at your Oklahoma Ford Dealer!

I like trucks and with gas getting more and more expensive it cool they are gonna knock $6000.00 off one so you can afford the $700 a month payment minimum. If your lucky maybe you can get your salesperson to fill up the truck with that first $110.00 fill up.

They kickass. Hurry now as they might be able to get you another one at that great rate as a nice 2nd vehicle.

I'll be back in a bit with info on the Chevy Volts and how you can get the transmissions to work the morning after you drove it Home.

In a 4x4 truck made for towing? It's not a Ranger.

So we have a smaller engine, equal power, lower torque curve, and better gas milage. Sounds like a nice change of pace compared to putting a bigger V8 into it.

The new Explorer with the EcoBoost engine will get 30 percent better fuel economy than the outgoing Explorer V-6, rated at 14/20/16 mpg (city/highway/combined). By that estimation, fuel economy for the EcoBoosted Explorer will stand at 18/26/21 mpg. Ford hasn’t released power outputs for the 2011 Explorer EcoBoost, but hinted the engine will produce at least 230 horsepower at the Chicago Auto Show. If this proves true, the EcoBoost four-cylinder engine will be more powerful than the current 4.0-liter V-6′s 210 horsepower. Hey....you can polish a turd but it's still a turd.

I bought a F-150 Lariat in 2004 rated at 15 mpg. If you could get 15 you must have been going downhill in traffic with the engine off, no a/c on andthe windows up, tailgate off or down....

I usually got around 11.5 with the way I drive and the best was close to 14 but never 14. I could regularly get in the 13s by really tweaking how I drove but it was a $35,000 ride that was supposed to bring me comfort. Having to tweak it to get 1 mpg more out of it, which was less than it's rated, was asinine. I know I could have spent more money on it and installed a KnN air filtration system and maybe chip things out in the electronics, but instead of pouring more money into a truck with a $650 payment per month, I sold it. I've been driving 2nd hand deals I could find on Craigslist for awhile now. Sometimes I'll fix those when they get a problem and sometimes I'll sell or part them out and find another old vehicle to gamble on. These car/truck companies can kiss my *** if they think they are going to gouge me again on a vehicle with bad gas mileage high insurance rates and a sticker that makes you want to instantly puke when you see it.

Oops, well that's my bad.

Anyway, the fuel economy could be better but my point is don't expect 20/30 mpg in a 5,000 pound truck shaped like a brick. It's a step in the right direction, I think.

i had a 92 chev 1/2 half ton with 350 engine. i kept track of mileage for as much as 10k miles. got around 19 mpg, but about 80 % of miles was on freeway.

i think 5.3s are a little better, but i don't check mileage any more.
plus later models are aerodynamically cleaner.

but the one i have now is heavier.

Actually, having the tailgate down or off decreases your mileage. Backdraft and such.

I'm hoping we see another rash of mathematically challenged individuals trading in their late model SUVs to buy gas sippers, cuz I'm in the market to replace my Explorer.

Here's a little chart I whipped up displaying how fuel prices affect expenditures.

The chart assumes:
- 15,000 miles driven per year
- price per gallon going up a dollar
- an entire year of inflated gas prices (hint: they usually go back down)

Yellow: how much your annual spend is going up with your current vehicle
Blue: how much you'll save every year going from Y mpg to X mpg. E.g., going from 15 mpg to 35 mpg saves $571/year.
Green: how much you'll save every month going from X mpg to Y mpg. E.g., going from 10 mpg to 30 mpg saves $83/month.

Moral of the story? Keep what you got.

If I was in the market to get a truck, which I'm not, it'd be one of these.

I have a 2001 Ford F-150 4X4 with about 70,000 miles and a 2005 F-150 King Ranch 4x4 with about 20,000 miles. I've never had any issues with either.

Just today I was looking at the Dodge Ram Longhorn that was very nice, however I don't think I could ever buy anything with "longhorn" in the name...

Another solid reason to stick with my current plan....lol
