So last weekend Me and some friends tilled up my entire backyard to turn it into a garden.

Today we added some plants and planted some seeds, but we still have quite a few rows left to fill it up and I am looking for some suggestions.

So far we have:
Green Bell Peppers
Cayenne Peppers
Jalapeno Peppers
Habanero Peppers
Beets
Radishes
Carrots
Squash
Sweet taters
Romaine lettuce
Broccoli
Tomatoes
Eggplant
Onions
Garlic
Basil
Dill
Rosemary
Sunflowers

What am I missing that will grow well? :pop:

Thai chili peppers. Somewhere between a jala and a hab in heat but with killer flavor.

I mean it is my entire back yard so we have lots of room. I ordered those seeds and a few more peppers and some thai basil.

Thanks for the heads up.

Should have done a raised bed....

Why? I have some raised beds for my rosemary. But I have yet to see the benefit. All it is is more dirt.

More control over your plant material.....

I didnt have any problems with my soil last year when I planted everything. And I didnt want to pay for more dirt. My dirt is perfectly fine dirt.

Serrano peppers. Hotter and tastier than jalapenos

Our gardens normally were covered mostly by what you have on your list. What we had that grew well in addition to your list:

cucumber
corn
squash
peas
okra

We tried mustard and lettuce but it never took.

yep we have plans for cucumbers a little later...

How do peas do? Our seed said on the package that it doesnt produce above 75F.

Okra is a damn fine idea. We've been thinking about corn too.

Parsley and Oregano do really well here.

Okra and corn always did well.

Our peas always turned out fine. I just remember long periods of shucking peas for my mom. Maybe just plant them early. I can't remember when we put them in the ground.

Fraggle, do you ever check out the Farmer's Almanac? My dad always used a specific one, but I don't remember which it was. That is what he went off of.

I did pickling cucumbers last year, but I think I'll try English cucumbers instead this year.

Can't have too many tomatoes as far as I'm concerned.... if you have space left over.

I like just regular cucumbers in slices with a sprinkle of salt on them. Yum.

I havent. I know I need to. Today we got really lucky with the nice shower after just planting the seeds.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Today we put in some asparagus.

I forgot to mention I already have a large section for mint.

You do know that you can't harvest asparagus until the third year after you plant them, right?

If you have a whole section for mint, you have to plant some chocolate mint.

Ironically,

I put in an asparagus trench on Saturday. Two rows totalling about 30' and 20 plants.

It felt like a lot of work for something I've got a few years to wait for a payoff, but I know it's going to be worth it if it works out.

Warning on colder temps - I planted some basil and green peppers when the temps were near-freezings and watered them, not expecting temps to drop. They did. The leaves looked pathetic come morning. I don't think the plants are dead, but they don't look nearly as awesome as they once did :(

You may want to consider cutting out the bottom of a gallon jug and covering your most vulnerable plants.

Basil is notoriously fragile.

Will mint offset that bad pee smell from the asparagus?

I'm not sure what went after our maters but they ate the bottom of the stalks off and then stole the maters. I mean...if they were hungry...have a mater.....but don't kill the whole damn plant! Probably an aggie.

Good idea... Last year my basil didnt have a problem, but I put it in in April.
