Hurst's backup is troublesome. He's basically the size I was as a freshman in high school.

Backup FB is puzzling

Trey Millard?

Must be slacking off or something and so Bob is sending a message with the depth chart to get his act together...

That depth chart is a f'n joke.

Brandon Williams at #2 RB? I guess J. Miller isn't coming along as they hoped.

Also, interesting that Sam Proctor can't get that starting job back,

And Tony Jefferson at OLB? I'm assuming he'll mainly be at that nickelback position since The Hammer is more likely to play that spinner position?

And how about Sheldon McClain, missed last season from a torn ACL senior year. Good for him, I'm assuming either McClain or McCay will be replaced by DeJuan Miller once we get to the summer.

And it is not looking good Kevin Brent is it?

It's because of injuries

Jefferson at OLB? Where have I been?

I understand the almost all-time nickle look that OU runs but dang...

Spring Depth chart is valuable for TP in an emergency...nothing else really :)

Haywood at backup tight end. Trent R.?

BOOMERBRADLEY
3/11/2011, 04:14 PM
I guess they just put Jefferson as an OLB because they didn't figure fans would know what ROY was. Either that or he's going to make the move???

Mad Dog Madsen
3/11/2011, 04:18 PM
Oh, that explains it. I'm so glad they think about the fans... :D Either way, 199 lbs is pretty dang small for a LB.

HBick
3/11/2011, 04:28 PM
I wonder if Trent R. finally got a scholarship, it'd be pretty bad if he STILL didn't have one

I like the depth on the OL. Colvin to SS really surprises me, but we'll see. Gabe has very little real experience, but he's a talented kid and I trust the coaches.

Gonna be a bright year, folks!

Speaking of ships, I think his sailed a long time ago, especially with the talent at D-End we bring in every year...

Seems like only yesterday USC had an undersized LB group. I don't recall how they did though.

who was that?

if talking about 2008, well... they all start in the NFL and are not undersized..

while at UF, keiwan ratliff was one of my students. i said, "keiwan, we're the same size." without missing a beat, wry little smile, his response, "true, but i'm a LOT faster than you."

my guess is that winters might be rather quick. no offense.:D

They figured they'd change Tony's position to OLB now instead of letting the NFL do it like they did with Keenan Clayton and Nic Harris. :D

I was talking about the Grootegoed, Sartz group that gang tackled AD. I don't think any of that group is playng NFL.

When have we ever had big LBs? We always run with quick guys rather than big and tough to move. That's why our DTs tend to eat blocks rather than pass rush.

What's the story with Julian Winters--listed behind Hurst at corner? He's a walk-on from Cali. I guess he RS'd last year?
Jake Trotter had this to say about him on twitter tonight:

Hearing OU staff high on walkon CB Julian Winters (on depth chart today), could see time this fall.
ALSO, in December the Team held their football banquet and, according to Soonersports.com

*Scout Team Player of the Year Awards were presented on both offense and defense. On offense, the honor went to Julian Wintersand Adam Shead.
Did he switch positions?

Also, super confusing, but Juilian Wilson, not Winters, a RS Fresh is listed as backing up Gabe Lynn.
Excited to see this kid--had great size for a corner 6'2", 182 lbs.
With size like that makes you wonder what the hell Aaron Colvin (175 lbs) is doing at safety

Thats why when we don't have those DTs, we can't stop the run

Could he have won an Offensive Scout Team Player of the Year award last December for playing RB @ 156 lbs?

1st team: Open
Others: The Usual Suspects

I'm surprised not to see Dejuan Miller. From what I have heard, he had been cleared to play during the spring.

don't get sold on this depth chart. It's like this every year. There is a 150% chance that there will be at least 3-4 changes by the season opener. And will have nothing to do with injury or suspensions

True, even though Stills had a nice spring game Musil was the stand-out. So, it doesn't hold true to what the following season will look like.

What ever happened to Kevin Brent? He was supposed to be starting material by now?

oudavid1
3/14/2011, 03:51 AM
Right now we would have 3 seniors on defense. Frank will be the hardest to replace. I feel we are so weak at defensive end right meow. Travis is hopefully grooming Nelson, so im not worried there. I like Wort, think he can easily replace Box (wishful thinking). Offense will be a little more difficult. Losing Rat and Hanna at TE will only deepen the huge void left by Jermaine. Both tackle positions will be up for grabs as well(We have recruited size, and have a great history of coaching up tackles). Then of course is our amazing flanker Mr Broyles. Im just gonna throw up a prayer and say.....Joe Powell?
