The internets don't like earthquakes. Tweets only need small holes to travel through, but e-mails could clog up the works. Unless, of course, you're shooting your e-mails up into space and bouncing off the satellites. Then, you better watch out for solar flares and Death Star energy beams. Tweets are too small for the beams of destruction, but e-mails get blasted.
