Traveling OKC to Stroud and back Saturday. Any great out-of-the- way eating establisments we shouldn't miss?

There is still a Stroud? I thought it was pretty well blown away by that F5 that hit a few years ago.

I wouldn't necessarily say Pop's is on the way but it is a cool restaurant. You can get to it off I-35 and then leave the restaurant east through Wellston to the Turner Turnpike.

Why would anyone want to get on the turnpike for bike ride? Am I right, dood?
I live on the interstate and always take old 66 or state highways for the scenery and the fact that I don't have to dodge Semi's or cages.

This place was on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. They had a very interesting menu.

The Rock Cafe
114 W. Main St.
Stroud, OK 74079
Tel: (918) 968-3990

Here is the menu. Appears they have German food and alligator burgers as well.

Go to Pops... if you are a Ginger Ale fan, or if you are just up for a challenge pop-wise, try the Red Rock Ginger Ale. Strongest pop EVAR.

Gotta add this: Pop's offers many interesting soft drink flavors, many good, some bad. The worst is something called Moxie. Truly wretched. The fun thing is to get a bottle, take a swig (prepare yourself for an unworldly bad taste)... keep a straight face.. and say "hey, that's pretty good." Then offer it to your unsuspecting son, wife, etc. :D Their expression will be priceless.

Tip: get the original flavor, it is the worst.

At $2.19 at bottle plus tax, that sounds like an expensive joke.

Pop's is great but it's not near Stroud.

Try The Rock Cafe.

It's called Stroud, America because the rest of Oklahoma doesn't want to claim it.

Rock Cafe is good, 5 Star BBQ right by the turnpike is pretty tasty.

How about the HoJo on the Turner Turnpike?

But if that's not available, I'd go with the place that was on Triple D.

Stroud used to be a nice little down, but in the last 5-6 years, it seems more and more desolate when I drive through it. Nothing good has happened in Stroud since Bookout. :D

Having the two largest employers taken out by a tornado will do that.

True. Was it a Kmart or Wal Mart that got destroyed?

True. Was it a Kmart or Wal Mart that got destroyed?

Neither. Outlet Mall and a hospital/health care facility. And they both chose not to rebuild.

When I was a young man I used to make trips to Stroud to get a perscription for speed from a local doc. Don't remember his name now. But he would write them scripts as long as you told him the right story about why you needed 'em! :D He got busted finally and that was the end of my trips to Stroud!
