This paragraph needs to be absorbed while the NCAA sits back on this one.

In May of 2009, The Columbus Dispatch reported that since 2000, Ohio State had reported to the NCAA more than 375 violations -- the most of any of the 69 Football Bowl Subdivision schools that provided documents to the newspaper through public-records requests. Most of the infractions were minor and resulted in little or no punishment.

So, Ohio State should vacate all wins from last year?

I think so...since nothing was done about it until December! I also think the NCAA should modify the five game suspension of the 5 players and make it the entire season!

Those guys were getting improper benefits for a long time!

If this had occurred at OU, we would have been slapped with lack of institutional control, a SI cover, and an ESPN outside the line investigation. This guy not only did not report these, but also lied to the whole country, and acted like he was shocked when he learned. It must be nice to be in the inner circle of those teams the NCAA will never touch.

Jim Tressel was hired by Ohio State after John Cooper finished the 1999 and 2000 seasons unranked. In his time with the Buckeyes, Tressel has compiled an impressive resume:

• 106-22 in 10 seasons.

• Won 2002 BCS National Championship.

• 9-1 vs. Michigan, including seven straight wins.

• Eight BCS bowl berths with three BCS Championship Game appearances.

• In 2009, led Ohio State to its first Rose Bowl since 1996.

• Six straight 10 win seasons and eight overall.

• Seven Big Ten titles, including at least a share of six straight.

Yet, with the same type of resume, Bob Stoops gets criticized in the media. This bias is just ridiculous.

Here's an idea Big Ten - take a cue from the SEC (holy cow the SEC actually gave a good punishment) and give Tressel the same punishment that the SEC gave Bruce Pearl for lying.

Suspend him for part of the CONFERENCE schedule. HALF of it. The FIRST HALF of it.

Sat. Oct. 1 MICHIGAN STATE
Sat. Oct. 8 at Nebraska
Sat. Oct. 15 at Illinois
Sat. Oct. 29 WISCONSIN

Four games, four MEANINGFUL games. Not hosting Akron and Toledo, the punishment issued by tOSU.

This would actually be perfect for the Big Ten, because unlike the other conferences lately, tOSU is permanently at the top with no off-years. It's time to punish, northernites. For your own good!

"I have had a player murdered. I've had a player incarcerated. I've had a player get taken into the drug culture and lose his opportunity for a productive life," an emotional Tressel said, tears welling in his eyes, at a news conference on Tuesday night. "It was obviously tremendously concerning. Quite honestly, I was scared.

Gee, Tressel, maybe this should have been a clue that not all things are spiffy in Columbus these days.

And it isn't your job to protect these players; it's the police's. Your excuse is lame beyond belief.

Gee also said he had not considered dismissing the Buckeyes coach.

"No, are you kidding?" he said with a laugh. "Let me be very clear. I'm just hoping the coach doesn't dismiss me."

You misunderstand. Gee has more political savvy then to imply that he has no control over the athletic department.

Can the NCAA be sued for treating schools with discrimination on it's rulings? I know you can't discriminate against people, but it seems like what they do is illegal.

Let's do this again.

This is not the NCAA's ruling. The NCAA has not ruled on this latest issue.

Yes, you can sue. Your chances of winning are slim and none, and your chances of having the suit thrown out are pretty high. The NCAA is a self-governing body and I doubt the courts are interested in getting involved in its affairs unless the complaint is especially egregious.

The Columbus Dispatch reported on Jan. 2 that Pryor had been “stopped for traffic violations on three separate occasions while driving cars that were owned by a car salesman or a Columbus used-car lot where the salesman worked.” He’d also been allowed to test drive a car for the weekend to his home in Pennsylvania.

Archie said the school knew of two of the incidents and had deemed nothing improper. He said the school would investigate the third traffic stop in a borrowed car. There has been no update on that internal investigation.

I doubt replacement head coaches fare any worse than the regular head coach.

Last night on ESPN radio when I was driving home I heard a guy being interviewed that was discussing that this investigation went further because of Yahoo sports and that these players should have been suspended at the beginning of the year and not played. Because Tressel lied to the NCAA they expect them to drop the hammer including lack of institutional control. Seems Tressel didn't tell anyone because one of the lawyers for one of the kids told him this was a federal investigation and not to say a word -- Brava Sierra in my book. He knew he couldn't win so he turned a blind eye.

Looks like what is leading to further investigation is one of the players involved saying they all knew the rules but did it anyway according to reports after the Bowl game.

ESPN's pundit with the person being interviewed expect The OSU to forfeit all games and the Bowl Game and much longer suspensions.

Also said the Auburn investigation is ongoing.

NCAA may be forced to hit both programs hard because of the lying and lack of institutional control.

Couldn't happen to a better coach or program as The OSU has been skirting the NCAA for years under Tressel.

Urban Meyers to Ohio State! As more comes out -- Tressel had prior problems at Youngstown State, he is going to be too hot for Ohio State to handle. Saw Meyer rumored to go to Ohio State back when this happened and now I wonder if someone knew more then than they were saying.

Looks like he has lost the Columbus Dispatch already from reading their articles. He has been nothing but violations since landing on campus and the use of the car by Pryor is more widespread than Ohio State wanted to admit. Their investigative arm is a joke.
