It should be so damn simple to establish a website where you go, enter your own SSN or Tax ID (if a company), then enter the SSN of the person you're hiring along with their name. If their name and number don't match, YOU DON'T HIRE THEM.
If you do, and are caught, you get to go to jail for a brief time. If your company does, the President of the company does the time.

Illegal immigration problems solved in 30 days. Without jobs, there is no reason to enter illegally.

Thank you.

That would be racist.

Not so fast...

You must audit to find companies that hire illegals...currently we audit less than 1/2% of US companies...a company can expect an audit every 200 years...

If they hired a bunch of illegals, they could audit way more companies.

A good start, though it's use is not mandated at the current time...

I don't think it's a good idea to have a website where all the SSN and ID's of US citizens are stored, since even our to secret military networks (http://thecable.foreignpolicy.com/posts/2010/01/22/the_top_10_chinese_cyber_attacks_that_we_know_of) are routinely attacked, and condensing such information into one space could spell doom for our economy.

Enemies of the US would cherry pick which identity to steal and do us harm.

the only way to stop illegals is to get our lazy people here in the US to start working the jobs they are coming here to take, which will unfortunately never happen.

Phil, help me out here with a dilemma.

I personally detest illegal immigration. But, I read this article: http://www.economist.com/node/17722932
and I realize the illegal worker is keeping costs down, and I can't see a US citizen doing the same job for the same money.

How does one process this dilemma?

If we quit making welfare, medicaid, and other social programs so profitable, maybe more folks would be willing to get off their couch and take those jobs.

Also, quit telling me you are poor when you have one or more big screen tvs, every cable channel available, game boxes, expensive data phones for you and your kids, and eat out or visit Starbucks at least once a day. I currently work with 2 of these folks and have always had at least one in every office.

Of course no US citizen would do the job for the same pay...hell, most get less than minimum wage and no benefits...

Let's say every illegal left the US....the operators that hire the illegals would need to increase their pay to get the job complete or they go out of business...

That increase in wages for the those jobs would also cause an increase in pay for all other low paying jobs...that increase would trickle up and raise pay for most all entry level workers...a good thing...

Overall product cost would go up slightly...some farm products would increase up to 15% due to increased labor costs but most would see only small increases...

Also, I would expect to see new technology developed to take the place of the unskilled labor....no need for a machine at the current time when we have a great source of underpaid labor...

Just like any other problem it will take a multi pronged attack to resolve the situation...

Hefty fines for companies and execs that allow illegal hiring...we MUST audit...we failed to audit the rigs in the Gulf....we failed to audit Wall Street....and we fail to audit companies for illegal hiring...we are damn good at writing laws but damn sorry at implementation, auditing, and followup...

Deport illegals when they are found..

Build a fence...

We don't mandate e-verify. Why not? Too unreliable? Then fix it.
too risky to have the data exposed. Folks, it's exposed already.
Not enough resources to audit? Then add resources.

We have the tools to stop illegal immigration quite easily. We don't. We must not care about it, really.

So, let's either insist on workplace verification of right to work (as symbolized by a SSN) and on meaningful penalties for the people in charge who allow/encourage illegal employment. Or let's shut up and move on to a problem we really do care about.

I'm sick of this one. E-verify would work. Bush's immigration plan would work. The fact that neither are being used would indicate that we have no intention to address the issue.

Fine, move on.

Thanks Phil. I don't see these companies cooperating with the feds to undo illegal immigration. As long as they have dough to spend, they're gonna spend in favor of their causes. no?!

There is a limited amount of resources and money. You can't add more bureaucracy and diminish waste and corruption, you can't implement more laws when the current ones aren't being forced, you can't increase government and cut the budget. The fact that some data are exposed does not seem like a good argument to make it easier for them to be exposed.

You are exactly correct...there are a limited number of options to resolve the problem...putting together a plan would be easy...implementation is more difficult...our leadership in DC does not want a plan to stop illegals...too many favors to pay...the Dems hate E Verify...

If your company does, the President of the company does the time

No, but under a different scenario, if the President of the company gets caught, the penalty is mandatory, court ordered, ethics training for the employees. Been there, done that.

It will if they're starving to death due to their gov't tit being cut off.

The only way you are going to put a stop to illegal immigration is to take away the freebies. Put a stop to free health care, free education, free food/shelter, and end the anchor baby program and they have little reason for coming here.

On the other side of the coin, you put a limit on welfare and handouts for the deadbeats that are already here, and maybe they will get off their porches and go take some of the jobs that the illegals are scarfing up. Able bodied citizens need to pay their own way, or at least perform work for the public sector if they are going to expect $ from the government. (IMHO)
