This doesn't surprise me. I read all the posts on our board about DM losing his burst and there were several plays this year where you could see that wasn't true. Our O-line just didn't give our backs many chances to break into the open this year. But go back to the poke game and that pick-6 LJ threw in the 1st half. DM ran the guy down and got a good tomahawk chop on the ball at the 1 yard line. The ball didn't come loose, but watching the speed DM displayed to catch the guy had me sayin' "holy crap!". There were a couple of screen plays where he got in the open and showed the wheels too.

Unofficial 4.40 on the 2nd run. The commentators were talking about how rare it is to find a back that is so good as a receiver and that DM might even be a 5th receiver in an empty backfield set.

Holy crap, Scott from Maryland is a big boy and he's running a 4.35!

2/27/2011, 03:11 PM
Malcolm Kelly is pissed, if he had been advised to wear the same shows Demarco had worn, he would have run a 4.4, been drafted in the first round and would be a 2-time pro bowler by now!
It's not his fault!

Other than his past injuries, DeMarco has to be a top prospect. He has good speed, power, moves, and was one of the best receiving backs in college football. Reminds me of Steve Sewell, but a better runner (and a nose for the first-down marker that was unparalleled).

could use a RB of the future. SJ has quite a bit of miles and he runs viciously

They are in desperate need of a number two back and he is one they are looking at. As a matter of fact the Rams GM Bill Devaney was quoted saying "he would be a viable option for us" in a chat-room discussion last week.

his vertical was 34.5 inches. in the top 10 of RBs

his 40 time was 5th best on the day for RBs. the difference between 4.41 and 4.35 is pretty small.

Collier11
2/27/2011, 07:02 PM
IF he stays healthy, Demarco will be a better NFL RB than a college one, and he was pretty darn good in college. Im not saying Pro Bowl, but he will put up some All Purpose numbers

Adrian Peterson ran a 4.38. And that guy is pretty fast.

Not sure about that. Production wise.

You've seen his stats right?

Im saying, he had a great career stat-wise at OU but he never got the opportunity until this year to put his stamp on the biggest games, hopefully he will in the NFL

They still need WRs over anything else.

Which they are highly likely to pick in the 1st round - DM will still be on the board after that. But the Rams need help in lots of areas.

Any other reports come out about DM? I just saw the 40 times.

Here are some write-ups. I think him and Tom Brady would make a nice combo. :D

http://www.nfl.com/combine/story/09000d5d81e874d4/article/locker-mallett-might-enter-firstround-conversation
"DeMarco Murray, RB, Oklahoma: Murray was regarded as one of the most dynamic runners in the draft, and his outstanding workout only validated his status. He posted a 4.41 time in the 40-yard dash, and showed excellent explosiveness while going through the drills. His combination of speed, burst and agility was apparent during the combination of bag and agility drills, and he appears to be a natural pass catcher after shining in the receiving portion of the workout. Given his display of speed, skill and athleticism, Murray is looking like a solid option as a third-down back."

http://www.xtrapointfootball.com/201102281069/2011-articles/february/nfl-scouting-combine-risers-a-fallers-day-four.html
"DeMarco Murray, RB, Oklahoma Sooners: Murray ran well at the Combine, posting an official 40 time of 4.41 and looked good in position drills. With a great deal of ambiguity as to the best running backs behind Mark Ingram and perhaps Mikel Leshoure, he could work his way into the top five running back prospects by the time the draft rolls around."

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/draft2011/columns/story?columnist=clayton_john&id=6164692
"RB class lacks speed: The 2011 class of running backs doesn't run very fast. Alabama's Mark Ingram trimmed down to 215 pounds but had unofficial 40 times of 4.58 and 4.61. Illinois' Mikel Leshoure, one of the top three backs in the draft, did a little better at 4.56. But most of the top backs didn't run very fast. Virginia Tech's Ryan Williams had times of 4.55 and 4.59. Oklahoma State's Kendall Hunter maintained his second-round rating with a 4.47. Oklahoma's DeMarco Murray helped his stock with a 4.45. But there isn't much explosiveness among this group of runners. Ingram still has a good chance of going to Miami in the middle of the first round, but overall, the running back crop is far from scintillating."

http://nflmocks.com/2011/02/27/2011-nfl-scouting-combine-reaction-and-analysis-rbs-wrs-and-qbs/
"DeMarco Murray’s stock improved a lot today. He showed his ankles are totally fine in the cone drills, and ran a 4.38 second 40 yard dash. With his size and quickness, I expect him to be in the top five or six running backs selected come April."

http://www.nepatriotsdraft.com/2011/02/2011-nfl-combine-offense.html
"Like Ponder, if Murray’s injury riddled past was thrown out, he’d be a lot higher on draft boards. Murray definitely turned some heads today with a 4.41 40, great hands and impressive change of direction skills."

http://espn.go.com/blog/boston/new-england-patriots/post/_/id/4693602/combine-leftovers-from-indianapolis
"In speaking with one evaluator focusing on running backs, his opinion was that this group is deep, with the chance to select a contributor as late as the fourth and possibly fifth round. His feeling was that one player who really helped himself was Oklahoma's DeMarco Murray. With their bounty of picks, this is an area I expect the Patriots to tap between rounds 2-4. Last running back drafted by the Patriots: Justise Hairston of Central Connecticut in 2007.

RB class lacks speed: The 2011 class of running backs doesn't run very fast...

That statement kinda cracked me up. I keep hearing that Emmit Smith posted a 4.7 in the combine. If Smith would have had some speed, he might have ended up the NFL's all-time rushing leader. Oh, wait...
