some of it was very good. i think he did the song,"jezebel". late 40s or early
50s. really liked that one.

theme to the tv show, "rawhide".

think he also did "Mule Train".

anyway, i remember him & really liked "jezebel".

i heard someone else do "riders in the sky" & convinced myself that whoever
that was did it 1st.

apparently not, Laine had a no. 1 hit with it in 49 or 50.
it was one of my favorites, back in the day.

went & looked him up, he had lotsa stuff that i liked.
i would rate him very highly, for those of us who can remember the 40s & 50s.

I thought Frankie laine did the best version of the song High Noon(Oh, don't forsake me, oh my darlin', on this our wedding dayee),Rawhide is a classic, Jezebel, Moonlight Gambler, and I like his Mule Train and Ghost Riders in the Sky. His album "Hell Bent For Leather" was a monster seller, and embodied the best of his Western music period. he was a recording star long before he did that stuff, though. I think the first time i remember hearing and really liking one of his songs was like 1954, I think. I was 9 yrs old then. It was Moonlight Gambler. Still one of my Laine faves.

Oh yeah. One-upsmanship eh? What do you remember about FDR?

you know, i don't remember a lot. i was almost 9 when the war was over. seems like everybody i knew in those days was a Dem. so he was a hero.

i think i remember the speech he made, declaring war, but it might be just the parts i've heard since then. i was only 5 then.

for me, he was the ONLY prez, until he died. I now respect Truman more than FDR. Truman & Kennedy are the only Dems for whom i would vote.

ole Harry had BIG balls.

FDR mostly seems to get credit for ending the depression, but IMHO, he only
did it by going to war. that was his last resort.

everybody that wanted a job (& lots that didn't) had a job during war.
example, when i worked @ Lockheed in Burbank, (times were good),
there were 25k folks working there. during the war there were 90k there.

wasn't "one-upsmanship". talking about being old is NOT bragging.

Daddy worked at Tinker Field during the war building C-47's. They built over 5000 of them there, so it must have been quite an assembly line when it was running.
