Ok, I just downloaded Gimp. One of my manuscripts is a photography book and all of the photos are photoshop files. I downloaded gimp so I could open them, BUT now it says CMYK is not supported. What's the easiest fix for this? How about the separate+ plug-in? I don't need to edit the files, I just want to see them.

TIA.

Open the file using Illustrator, convert to RGB, save, reopen in Photoshop.

Just kidding, I have no clue.

Your computer needs to grow a pair.

What's the easiest fix for this?

1. Go to Pirate Bay.
2. Download Photoshop.
3. Install Photoshop.
4. Have fun.

Separate+ plug-in

Installing binary version from Painters Studio repository

Painters Studio repository (http://pst.brankovukelic.com/) hosts binary packages for Separate+ plugin. To obtain the plugin, add one of the following two repositories to your pacman.conf:
#x86_64 packages[pst]Server = http://pst.brankovukelic.com/x86_64 (http://pst.brankovukelic.com/x86_64)# or#i686 packages[pst]Server = http://pst.brankovukelic.com/i686 (http://pst.brankovukelic.com/i686)Then install the package using pacman:
pacman -Sy gimp-plugin-separate+Installing using AUR

Grab the gimp-plugin-separate+ (http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=32995) package and install it using makepkg (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Makepkg).
Installing manually

To install manually, get the zip file from Sourceforge.jp download page (http://sourceforge.jp/projects/separate-plus/downloads/42977/separate+-0.5.5.zip/), unpack it and issue the following commands:
makesudo make installIf you don't have sudo (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Sudo) on your system, you can build like this:
makesu# Enter root passwordmake installWhen you start Gimp the Separate+ will be reachable through Image > Separate menu.

okay, now I need something in ENGLISH.

okay, now I have 11 files downloaded on my computer and none of them have an .exe extension, which means I don't have a clue what to do with them. I don't understand computers, so none of this has helped so far, except that i've probably got a whole bunch of crap on my computer now that i don't need.

there are H files and C files and an "application" and a "file". This is stupid.

you don't have separate.exe?

You are hiding extensions. The "application" is the .exe.

It wouldn't run because it said i was missing some file in Gimp, so I uninstalled and reinstalled Gimp, except this time it wouldn't let it save to the program files folder, and then i found the Separate+ thing again, except now there are 40 files and none of them is an exe.

now i've uninstalled and deleted everything for a second time.

And NOW it says the source files are corrupted and won't install.

Try jiggling your toggle switch.

If you only need it this one time, you could download the real Photoshop or Photoshop Elements right from Adobe. They give you a free 30 day trial.

Krita and Scribus are open source free programs that support CMYK. You would have to install a bunch of KDE stuff for Krita... not sure about Scribus

That's okay. I got IrfanView. It opens the files and it downloaded properly in about 30 seconds.
