Glad he's history, but I remember studying a lot about Indian history while growing up in Lawton. Of course, some of my classmates were descendants of Quanah Parker, Geronimo, Satank, etc. They brought great stuff on show-and-tell day.

We should have a month dedicated to Indian history.. I mean the US government systematically tried to eradicate our peoples and cultures for over 400 years..

When I was in school it was mandatory for 1 or 2 semesters to study Indian history in OK (seems like 9th grade). I don't know if other states have such a requirement.

I only disagree in so much as I don't think anyone should be singled out. Native American culture is as deserving as any group. I certainly believe it needs to be taught. Especially here in Ok. When I was in school it was a focus.

They are still pissed about all that land they decided to stick the Osage Nation with that they thought was worthless and turned out to be one of the richest oilfields in OK. I enjoy my checks....every month is history.

If they could lift some sort of cultural popularity or be made to feel good about themselves by doing it, it would already be done.

That was the great irony....they thought they were giving the tribes worthless land in the Indian Territory and a lot of it turned out to be great oil and gas fields.

In November 1265, an American Indian named Ahote Kickatree made an important discovery: Wolves do not make good pets.

In January of the year 1238, an American Indian named Otaktay Punchface engineered a revolutionary method for the manufacture of mud bricks.

On the first day of Spring in 1929, Kohana Skunkleg invented a new approach to paint-huffing which is still widely used in modern times.

Indian History in a nutshell . . .

Well, you have this country, second most populous one on the planet, that has a culture going back a few millenia. And they have a religion based on a fat guy. Anyway, the British showed up one day, thought the place would make a nice addition to their "empire" and promptly took over. Then this Indian dude named Gandhi convinced all the other Indians to do sit ins and stop working for the Brits until they got tired of doing their own laundry and serving their own tea and went home. Now Indians are the people you talk to whenever you have to deal with customer service.

Test next week. Study hard.

I'm pretty sure that Republicanism and democracy are bit older than western contact with the Americas.

I know. It was pitiful what they did to Indians. I saw a video where these small Indian kids at one of the government schools were forced to sing "one little, two little, three little indians." Of course, that song was written by a Brit and referred to the Indians in India, but it is a classic example of what these children from various reservations were forced to do.

That was his hangout. He would go to Gibsons to try and buy his paint. If successful, he would do his sniffing behind the store. He would then walk aimlessly down Lee until he got to the Big J on the south side of the street, where he would sit down to catch his breath and then have a cigarette. He was frigging clockwork.
