LOL at Vince Young being that high at #6 and Colt McCoy being higher than Sam Bradford...geez. I bet Oklahoma State fans are enjoying #3.

Lee Roy should be much higher and Jerry Tubbs should be on there somewhere.

The only reason Colt is ranked higher than Sam is because he wasn't good enough to be drafted early, so he stayed around and racked up stats.

is Ricky Williams really the 25th greatest player of all time?

I still think someone needs to do a top 100 lists of all time and then just end all these stupid lists

6. Vince Young, Texas
25. Ricky Williams, Texas

33. Lee Roy Selmon

Seriously, Clarence? Wonderlic and Pothead are ranked above one of the most dominant defensive players ever to strap on a helmet? SERIOUSLY??? Let me guess...the compiler of the list is a 17 year-old kid from Houston.

Where is Jimmy Clausen?

The only problem I have with it is there are way too many guys from the 20s, 30s, and 40s on there. Being the best at a time when sports were considered nothing more than a healthy diversion for young aristocrats at Harvard, Yale, adn the service academies is not that great of an achievement.

Meh. SI is in the swim suit business now. Cant take their list too seriously. I would think that even texass fans would disagree with vince being ranked higher than Earl Campbell.

2/22/2011, 10:33 AM
It is not exactly apples to oranges if it is understood that the list is about which ones were the top players in their time, who had the most impact on the opposition they faced. As this list came from SI, it is a fluff piece and not meant to be taken seriously.

He is generally considered the worst Heisman winner of all time. Sam Bradford isnt.

Here are Beban's Heisman season stats:

87/156 55.8% 1359yds 8.7yd/att 8TD/8INT

He did rush for over 200 yards though. :D

I find it extremely difficult to fault Sanders for OSU having a lousy D that year. OU was the only game in which OSU didn't put up at least 41 on the board, & even then, the 28 they put up that night should've been enough to win, if they'd had anything resembling a competent D.

I won't say that Sanders was/is the best ever, but that's only because I never saw Jim Brown play, other than highlight films. Of the backs that I have watched, I'd take him 8 days a week & twice on Sundays.

I was at that game. Brent Parker dropped Gumby's [hairGel] pass at the end of the game but if Sanders was the best of all time he would have somehow been there to scoop the ball up for a TD before it hit the ground.

that ball went thru parker's hands, there was no chance to "scoop the ball up".

the killer was garret limbrick drew a 15 yd penalty a play or 2 before. 15 yds. plus it was "dead ball", loss of down.

Speaking of overrated. Brown finished 5th in the Heisman vote, yet today we remember him motoring for a TD on every play -- and running over 8 players doing it. Average rush/attempt is 6.2, which is pretty damn good. Sanders averaged 7.6 yards/carry and (most importantly) put up over 200 yards on a very good Sooner defense. I mean, four 300-yard games?

Sooner Cal
2/25/2011, 11:46 PM
Anthony Davis and Charles White better than AD. Matt Leinart better than Bradford. Larry Fitzgerald ranked that low. Billy Sims, who should have won 2 Heismans ranked that low. Archie Griffen, who did win 2 lower than Herschel Walker. No member of the 56 Sooners who never lost a game makes the list.

Can we say Joke.

Here is a tough question: Which team was looked upon most favorably when making this list. IOW, what was the likely team favorite of the list composer?
