What is the best way to increase your signal? Booster or new/better router? I have a Cabana that is about 20 yards from my home and my piece of **** router will not work from that distance. What should I do? TIA

it might be time to look into a multi-router solution, Bruce

you can also look into better antennae

I just recently moved back to a single device from a multiple unit setup. I get a more reliable coverage area with a Cisco E4200.

Easy. Move the cabana closer to the house. ;-)

I believe in Maine it's referred to as an "upholstered outhouse.";)

Cordless phones and other electronic devices placed next to the router can cause problems. Also, if you have multiple routers, say for a DVR, TIVO, or other computer, this can also cause problems.

Supposedly bluetooth can also cause you issues.

Then again, depending on who you use for internet service (I have Cox), that could be the problem as well. I'd buy a new router, I have found that the Cisco brand is very good (for me anyway). If this does not work, I'd move the router to another room or try a booster.

Wireless problems are a pain the the arse sometimes. usually it is simply a matter of finding the problem a step at a time.

Good luck.

Thanks for the info. The cordless phones are on a different frequency, so they're ok. I have AT&T DSL with a 2Wire router. What I guess I'm gonna try to do is get another identical 2Wire router and place it in my cabana and basically have separate signals.

you may also try changing the channel the router broadcasts on.

I know that this is a stretch, but in my security on my wireless devices, I can pick up 5 out of the 8 houses on my block. It even shows the name of there network. Is that common for any of you others using wireless in a decent sized neighborhood?

get a ham license and buy your own equipment and make your own wireless network.....might be illegal though. but with the license you can use some of the higher freqs.

You have at&t and are having signal strength issues? Mine works fine. Hell if I had the code I could get my neighbor's at&t internet. I'd look into a booster to put in the cabana. It'll get the signal from your first router and make it to where you can use it out there too.

Yes, I didn't by internet I'm my apartment for like 3 months. Too many free ones to choose from to justify spending all that money.

If you have electric power in the Cabana you might try one of the Powerline network options. The word on the street is that there will be devices on the market soon that are capable of up to 500Mbps.
