Wow....talk about memories. I had a tiny Indian motorcycle similar to that, only silver, when I was a wee lad. Mine even had training wheels on it until I learned how to ride it.

I know I was quite manly riding that with my white, shieldless Bell helmet. :D

We had a couple Honda 50's we rode around my folks place. My dad still has them. Fun bikes.

I had one of those as a kid. Someone threw it away and we got it and Dad got it running. We painted it purple. Lots of fun.......and crashes on that little thing.

If it's a genuine Indian, it's likely worth a pretty penny, but I don't know for sure, and I don't wanna research it.

Yeah, I've considered pulling the trigger on a new Roadmaster or Vintage Chief but that $35,000 price tag has held me back. Momma goes "what makes more sense, a $80K tractor or a $35K scooter?" She has a point.

That little Indian really shouldn't be worth a whole lot. If it ran, was perfect, etc. and is the right year/model it could fetch good $$, but most of them out there are junk and bring junk money.

Dean- if you had any sense you'd put that money towards an RV and go on music festival tour this summer.

;)

There is an Indian motorcycle store in Tulsa so I'm pretty sure they're not out of business.

My cousin in Lawton had one of those, the first motorcycle that I rode. We got me a Yamaha Mini-Enduro MX model soon after. The little Indian was an Ital-Jet 50cc minibike.

Here is the wikipedia entry for that era, it is pretty close to what I have read/heard elsewhere from people familiar with Indian from that period.

Wikipedia: Indian Motorcycles - Rebadged Imported Products (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_%28motorcycle%29#Rebadged_imported_products )

Floyd Clymer imports, 1963-1977
From the 1960s, entrepreneur Floyd Clymer began using the Indian name, apparently without purchasing it from the last known legitimate trademark holder. He attached it to imported motorcycles, commissioned to Italian ex-pilot and engineer Leopoldo Tartarini, owner of Italjet Moto, to manufacture Minarelli-engined 50 cc minibikes under the Indian Papoose name. These were so successful that Clymer also commissioned Tartarini to build full-size Indian motorcycles based on the Italjet Grifon design, but fitted firstly with Royal Enfield Interceptor 750 cc parallel-twin engines, then with Velocette 500 cc single-cylinder Thruxton engines.[citation needed]

After Clymer's death in 1970 his widow sold the alleged Indian trademark to Los Angeles attorney Alan Newman, who continued to import minicycles made by ItalJet, and later manufactured in a wholly owned assembly plant located in Taipei (Taiwan). Several models with engine displacement between 50 cc and 175 cc were produced, mostly fitted with Italian two-stroke engines made either by Italjet or Franco Morini, but the fortunes of this venture didn't last long. By 1975, sales were dwindling, and in January 1977, the company was declared bankrupt. The right to the brand name passed through a succession of owners and became a subject of competing claims in the 1980s, finally decided in December 1998 by a Federal bankruptcy court in Denver, Colorado.
