I haven't done a music festival since a Willie Nelson 4th of July picnic eight years ago. This year's Bonnaroo lineup looks good and I've always wanted to go. Any recommendations?

I have thought about going but have never gotten up the courage. It sounds like it is a SERIOUS commitment.

I have gone to the festival in Austin 3 times and have always had a great time. And at the end of the day you get to go sleep in an actual bed somewhere.

I agree. I would love to go see that lineup but me in a tent for 3 days is the very definition of pfft.

SGA mentioned the Hang Out Music Fest which also has a pretty killer lineup!

Lott's Bandana bait. That boy is damn near my age and still goes to all the kiddie shows. I love me some live music, but if there ain't a bar, a bathroom, a comfy seat, and a dance floor I ain't going. And I damn sure ain't driving 4-5 hours to see anybody unless his name is Joe. As in Bonamassa/Satriani/Cummings (well Cummings first name is Albert, but that's Polish for "joe.")

Skipping Sasquatch this year. Lineup is lazy, with FooFighters headlining an Indie festival? All the other acts have played the festival the last 3 years. Seen it. Makes me sad, because the venue is the best in the world.

Gonna check out Bonnaroo's lineup, as you guys seem to find it favorable. Also Coachella, as I now have festivalitus.

EDIT: Lineup is excellent at Bonnaroo! This is what a festival should look like with Dr John, Lil Wayne and The Decemberists all playing the same site. Bonnaroo tix on sale Saturday, 11am CST.

1200 bones for Mem Weekend out of Seattle was our cost.

RV slept 6, got decent gas mileage, with fridge, stove and awning.

3 of us split the total.

Bonnaroo has RV's on-site for rental. That's the way to go.

I do the Harvest Music Festival on Mulberry Mountain (Ozark, AR). It is beyond awesome. Bonaroo would be too nuts for me. Heck, I wouldn't even want any part of Wakarusa.

The 2011 Bonaroo lineup escapes words. Unreal.

I've been to Bonnaroo. Twice. Had a blast both times. Drove from OKC, waited in line, set up a tent. I barely slept the entire time (no drugs). It can get hot. And humid. If you go, take plenty of water and TP and food. The second time i went, they had plenty of port o poopers. That was 6 years ago. I brought those big gallon containers of water to wash up with, and plenty of deodorant, which seems to be a lost idea to many people there. I saw some of the craziest people in my life there. People messed up on all sorts of drugs. It was fun though. Probably some of the best live sound I've ever heard. The sound guys are pro.

Y'all know what you're calling a "awesome once in a lifetime experience" I'd call a miserable ****ing weekend, right?

Sorry, but I'm jaundiced as hell. If Jimmy Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and the WHOLE mother****ing Beatles ain't playing I ain't even gonna rent a towel to see it. I love me some music, but I hate me some pretentious homos that seem to permeate every music "event." No offense LB.

Heh. Renting an RV to go to a musical festival featuring Paul Simon. Heh.

FTR, I would much rather go to a dubstep (like Skream or Burial) concert. Hang out with some YOUTH, not some old fogies!

Great band. Many of the bands now on the scene are pretty horrible. We're not talking three-chord guitars -- one chord. Reh-reh-reh-reh-reh-reh-reh-reh-reh-reh-reh (swing the hair, swing the hair, swing the hair). Bleh!

Railroad Earth, Sam Bush, Split Lip, Mountain Sprout, YMSB, Leftover Salmon, Dirtfoot, Cormeal, Traveling McCourys, Elephant Revival, come on, thats some good ****.

Keep talking out of both sides of your mouth in order to argue with everyone on this board, I guess once you have the rep, might as well live up to it.

Sorry, I just don't have any Leftover Salmon in my collection. Oh, what am I going to do?

(In reality, these are all probably decent bands in their own right. I watched some Leftover Salmon and they sounded pretty good. I'm a big fan of bluegrass and... yeah... I could listen to it. I love me some Alice's Restaurant, Hipster music scene or Bluegrass revival?

Usually this crap is started by some popular movie. I love the music, but I doubt many of the fans could saw off some Possum On a Gum Stump even if they knew how to play the fiddle.

But it still beats that swing fad we went through. That was truly wretched and nearly destroyed the ska scene. I never want to hear any more Cherry Poppin' Daddies or whatever the **** they were called.

Six chicks lived next door to me one year in college, and every other month or so they would shed their designer clothes and put on flannel shirts and birkenstocks and pile into their lexuses and mercedes to go to all those bluegrass festivals. I wanted to ask them if they would still go to all these shows when they were suburban housewives five years from now, but I had a pretty good thing going with six slutty girls living next to me and I didn't really want to risk pissing them off.

I'm not sure what the point of my story was, although my neighbors now are 3 engineering students on one side, and an old korean guy on the other. Man I miss college.
