Sitcoms were better back in the old days.

Danny Devito beginning at the 0:25 mark.

Christopher Lloyd has trouble answering a question at the 3:20 mark.

This is true. The Simpsons is Fox and Fox is The Simpsons. That's how it'll always be to me.

I remember being little when Fox started out and it was the "bad" channel with The Simpsons, Married with Children, In Living Color, and was too 'edgy' to watch being five years old. I did anyway :D

I have a hard time comparing Seinfeld and other more recent shows with the shows of the seventies and eighties.

I understand Seinfeld and The Simpsons are old now, but I used to watch The Hulk, The Fall Guy, The Dukes, WKRP, Taxi, and all the others of that era, as the aired. So it's hard for me to compare to shows that aired when I was a teen and older. Those seventies and eighties shows are so special to me.

Here are my all-time best sitcoms, in order.

1. The Honeymooners
2. Green Acres
3. Taxi
4. I Love Lucy
5. Get Smart

Seinfeld was funny, but I never got the belly laughs out of it that everyone else did and I never liked its "get a laugh at every utterance" strategy. WKRP is too dated for my blood.

Oh, I thought Marilu Henner on Taxi was pretty sweet lookin'. But I liked Carol Kane even more. Not sure why. I just did.

Toward the end he become so unbelievably pathetic (and Kelly became mentally retarded) that it just got over the top. The show peaked around the fourth season (and so did Kelly's looks).

Best episode: Al creates a 1-900 number for shoe help. (The one where Peg shows up in a one-piece bathing suit is pretty alright too.)

I think I was too young to really get Taxi. I do think there are some good sitcoms on today, but with the reality shows and crime dramas there isn't a lot of room for them. I keep thinking people will get sick of "reality" TV but it hasn't happened yet.

There were a lot of really crappy completely generic sitcoms back in the '80s. The good thing is that we have fewer copy-cat crappy ones now (at least on the major networks).

My favorites:

1. Friends
2. Seinfeld
3. Cheers
4. Two and a Half Men
5. Big Bang Theory

The Office goes in there somewhere but it's a little too hit or miss to be top 10. There are some really good episodes and some really mediocre ones.

No Pacey is on Fringe, which is not awful. It's a Bad Robot show.

You have time to get caught up on Walking Dead. They did a six episode first season, and it will be a while before we get season two. The realism is unparalleled.

Sons is sweet because of the cast. Ron Perlman and Katy Segal in particular.

I recommend Shameless. I think it aires on Showtime. William Macy plays a perfect drunk ****head of a father, while his kids fend for themselves.

Also, I watch the Sparticus prequel.

I keep thinking people will get sick of "reality" TV but it hasn't happened yet.

For the most part they are. Thing is, you can make a "reality" show for pennies on the dollar compared to a weekly sitcom, even in an exotic location. Especially in an exotic location.

With the sitcom, it doesn't matter if you shoot it in the US or Khartoum, you still have to pay a lot of US dollars to really good actors. If you take a bunch of slackjaws out to the sticks of Papua New Guinea, 1) you don't pay SAG or AFTRA scale to anyone, 2) day laborers cost 50¢ a day, 3) you get an extremely favorable exchange rate for the food, goods and services you consume on the shoot.

The network execs will gladly spend some of the savings on PR buzz to convince the country that "everyone's watching" when really the only people that are watching never thought for themselves in the first place and couldn't follow the plot of an episode of Law & Order to save their lives.
