Looking at booking my flights from DFW and it's half the price to fly into Hacksonvile and drive than to fly direct. It's about $230 on american to Jax.

Any other options I'm not thinking of.

Man I'm driving. Splitting a rental car with a friend and just making a road trip out of it.

We may kill each other before it's over.

I'd drive. Take some time, hit New Orleans for some food and jazz, then the beaches on the panhandle of florida, maybe do some salt water fishing and the game, or in reverse order....

At the time I will have a 2 1/2 year old and a 10 month old. Driving is not an option. :)

Car will be $40 a day split with another person.

Colley, like I said somewhere's else, check flights into Orlando, they are usually cheaper and you can get direct flights. It's ridiculously difficult to get a direct flight into Jax, we usually have to connect twice when we go somewhere. Also, Allegiant Air out of Fayetteville almost always has $200 or less fares into Orlando. And it's only about an extra hour's drive than Jax.

For those driving, we've done this a couple times--AVOID I-40 FROM LITTLE ROCK TO MEMPHIS!!!! It's AWFUL!!!! Bumper to bumper, only 2 lanes, forty-eleven semis to every one car, bad road conditions, etc. That route also takes you thru Birmingham, AL and around Atlanta, and we've caught really bad traffic there everytime we've tried to go that way. Just not worth saving a few miles.

From Eastern OK, you can take US 65 out of Little Rock, and go thru Hattiesburg, MS, which is usually where we spend the night--lots of affordable hotels, restaurants, and it's around halfway. From there, you head down toward Mobile and catch I-10 into Tally.

That route is good roads, almost all 4 laned, and the traffic is minimal. Also very pretty country with plenty of gas stations, fast food, etc.

From OKC, head toward Dallas and catch I-20 into Shreveport/Jackson, then down to Mobile and I-10.

These routes are only a little longer but much more pleasant and easy to drive, very little traffic, good roads, and facilities.

Hope a bunch of ya can make it down, we'll need to be loud and proud for this one!!! ;)

Your options are gonna be as follows for decent alternatives from TLH airport: JAX (Jacksonville), MCO (Orlando), ECP (Panama City) and TPA (Tampa). Each is at most three hours drive from Tallahassee.

We about got killed by a reckless semi driver last time we went that way, and I decided we'd never go that way again. I really like the other routes much better, easy driving and pretty country, WAY less semis.

Actually, I-40 in Arkansas is getting pretty nice. They've completed most of the new roads over the last 10 years and they are nice and smooth. I've been driving that stretch of road a few times year since 1999. Most of it is better than anything on I-40 from Nashville to OKC now days.

If your driving, here's my opinion:

I have made the drive from Ft. Stewart, Georgia (just outside of Savannah) to Lawton 5 times in the past 3 months (1200 miles). Last month I did it in a U-Haul and a '76 F-100 Ranger XLT on a trailer during that damn ice storm driving solo.

I'm pretty solid as far as long drives go. I can hammer down and cover some miles. For me, about 750 miles is a good, safe day.

The drive to Tallahassee is over 900 miles. So take I-40, take I-35 South through Dallas and pick up I-20 or cut through SE Oklahoma and enjoy the scenery. Just make sure you cut at least a couple hundred miles off of the trip on either day and drive safe. It's just outside of the safe distance for a one day drive.

All of those routes are easy if you don't get in to a hurry. Point is, it's an easy drive if you take two days, so don't stress the route you take and be careful. It's America. Enjoy the USA, don't rush it.

They are young enough you are probably still really attached to them. Best advice; Sell the kids. You should get more than enough to get a first class direct flight. Might even pay for your whole trip.

I know it sounds dumb now but in twenty years you will be kicking yourself for not doing it :D

I've made the drive from West Palm Beach to Pensacola many times. It takes a little over 10 hours. From Orlando to Tallahassee it's about a 5 hour drive. Tampa is about the same if not more. Jacksonville is about 4 hours. Pensacola is 3 hours. Panama City is pretty far south of I-10. No easy way to get from Panama City to Tallahassee.

There just isn't a quick and easy way to get Tallahassee. It really is in the middle of nowhere!

You do know that it is a long way from Jacksonville to Tallahassee? Check out Pensacola and Mobile which are both much closer.

Why not drive and spend the night in Biloxi or Gulfport, MS, at one of the brand new casinos built after the hurricane that wiped out the coastal businesses in those two cities.

Let's be correct here...Jacksonville to Tallahassee on I-10 is a little less than three hours and it is a boring drive.
Pensacola is a little more than 3 hours from the airport.
Orlando is a little more than 4 hours but offers more entertainment than the other cities.

Jacksonville should have a few non-stops out of Dallas. Orlando should have non-stops out of almost any airport.

The last time I checked, Orlando also had an alumni club. Jacksonville used to but it fell apart in 2006.

Yeah, i saw it's a drive, but its the cheapest to get to from DFW ($240 RT). Driving not an option. Leaving behind a wife and 2 kids under 3. Gotta get back on Sunday for her birthday as well.

With rising gas prices, that sounds like a good deal. I've driven to Pensacola from OKC several times. I haul tail and can get down there in around 12-13 hours. I normally leave at 6 am and would arrive around 7pm, but that's a long day. If you can fly that cheap.. do it. Plus, Tallahassee is like another 3 hours from Pensacola.

So you save $250 to fly to JAX, but you have to rent a car for two days, spend an additional 6 hours in the car, and buy at least 2 1/2 tanks of gas?

Pay to fly into Tallahassee.

Thought about that, but for the flight times to work, it's $150-$200 more a ticket. Rental car is free with points that my dad never uses. my dad and my brother and I never get time away like that so i won't mine the drive...unless we lose.

Yes, we do have more non-stops than anyone, and we do still have an alumni club.

Since I live in Orlando, I'm making the drive from here to the game. I rarely get back to Oklahoma, so I try to go to all of the Oklahoma/Florida teams games (mostly in Miami).

If anybody needs suggestions for entertainment or hotels in Orlando, I can let you know. Good luck!

We had planned on driving and making a vacation out of it. However, with the uncertain gas prices, today we decided to try and find a flight. Found a good flight out of Love Field into Tampa (I know it's a 4 hour drive), and got a great price, $195 rt. Can't wait

I plan on driving from my house in Guthrie to the store to pick up some kind of dead animal to grill, then drive back to my house and cook it while drinking copious amounts of beer. Then I'll settle into my seat and watch the game while my dear, dear girlfriend fills my Beer Glass in a low cut top.

All of this is true but the beer glass. I drink straight from the can.
