since the office is closed again today.

We've proabably all heard some great Vince Lombardi quotes, but here's my new favorite:

(To the Green Bay Packers his first year) "We will relentlessly pursue perfection. We will never achieve it, but we will relentlessly pursue it. Because in so doing, we will achieve excellence."

Bart Starr, the same guy who QB'ed the Packers to 1-8 the previous season, says, in the documentary, knowing Lombardi meant the above with every cell of his being is what lit the spark.

And the rest is history.

I'm learning so much about Coach Lombardi watching this documentary. When he was still a HS coach, the principal asked him to coach the basketball team. He had never coached basketball. He had never even played it. So he went to the school library and checked-out an old book about the game. He studied the heck out of that book all summer. After football season, when his team won its 6th state championship BTW, he began to coach the basketball team. He focused on the fundamentals, applied his incomparable leadership abilities, and guess what? The son-of-a-gun won the state HS basketball championship his first year coaching the sport.
