The term...."You have nothing to Fear but Fear itself" instead of "Fair and Balanced"?

Why would the #1 cable news network change?

Penguin

It's still a news channel? They don't even do weather reports any more. The only time they even mention weather is when a storm shuts down New York City.

I really don't understand the FOX hate....seriously. I try and listen to all and to be honest I enjoy and actually receive more facts from FOX and FOXB. I am news junkie....and yes I still have papers (I know...old fashioned) delivered to me daily (WSJ, NYT and LAT).

The ratings I see have them #1 in most areas of the news (timeslots, etc).

Everyone can have their opinion of course (which is great)....but the sheer numbers of folks watching FOX vs any other news outlet is hard to argue with.

Again, I am not saying that I only watch FOX....I do watch CNN and CNN HLN during the day a lot. I have tried MSNBC and to be honest I just can't even rate them in the bottom 100.

People pick up these stupid ideas from propaganda headquarters, without even realizing it. Next thing you know it's "cool" to hate on Fox. Just like the popularity of the IPhone. You can buy a kid a book and send them to school, but they still try to eat cereal with a fork.

The biggest problem I have with them is that they make up their own news by throwing in their favorite quote "Some people say..."

The biggest example off the top of my head is that video of 2 dudes with weapons at a polling place. In 2008, two big, black dudes claiming to be with the New Black Panther Party were "standing guard" at a polling place (in Cincinnati, I think?). One dude had like a baseball bat or something. Well, this conservative activist was videotaping these two and commenting, "Oh, no! I feel so intimidated!" and other silly stuff like that.

So, Fox News sat on the video for a year and a half and brought it out a few months before the 2010 elections started heating up. The dude with the bat had already been arrested and prosecuted for bringing a weapon to a polling place. The NAACP and the New Black Panther Party both said that these idiots were acting alone. It was a non-news story.

Did Fox News drop it? Nope. They showed the video every single day for weeks during the summer of 2010. They kept saying, "Some people say that the Justice Department is racist and will not prosecute a black man!" "Some people say that Obama wants this covered up!" "Some people say that the New Black Panther Party will attack white people in 2010!" Blah, blah, blah.

They do not report the news. They just make it up and nobody calls them on it.

In a sign of just how dominant Fox News is in the cable news network ratings game, the network easily won the rankings in the first quarter of 2009, averaging more viewers than competitors MSNBC and CNN combined — and in the process claimed nine of the top the program spots.

For the quarter, Fox News was the #2 cable channel in prime time, averaging 2,250,000 total viewers (behind only the USA juggernaut, which averaged 3,115,000 total viewers). CNN placed 17th with an average of 1,126,000 total viewers, while MSNBC placed 24th, with an average of 950,000 total viewers.

In total day ratings, Fox News ranked 5th among all cable channels in total viewers, while CNN placed 14th and MSNBC placed 28th.

"The O'Reilly Factor" — which in March celebrated its 100th consecutive month as cable news' top-rated show — was the #1 cable news program in Q1, averaging 3.4 million total viewers, a 27% increase over a year ago. Rounding out the top five were "Hannity" (up 36% over Q1 2008), "Glenn Beck" (up 90%), "Special Report with Bret Baier" (up 39%), and "On the Record with Greta Van Susteren" (up 26%). MSNBC's "Countdown with Keith Olbermann," which came in tenth with 1.3 million total viewers, was the only non-Fox News show to crack the top ten.

The top ten programs for Q1 are listed below — incidentally, the same order held for March 2009.

Top 10 Cable News Programs, Q1 2009 (by total viewers)
1. The O'Reilly Factor: 3,438,000 total viewers
2. Hannity: 2,579,000 total viewers
3. Glenn Beck: 2,271,000 total viewers
4. Special Report with Bret Baier: 2,092,000 total viewers
5. On the Record with Greta Van Susteren: 1,977,000 total viewers
6. The FOX Report with Shepard Smith: 1,927,000 total viewers
7. The O'Reilly Factor (repeat): 1,457,000 total viewers
8. America's Newsroom: 1,445,000 total viewers
9. Your World with Neil Cavuto: 1,428,000 total viewers
10. Countdown with Keith Olbermann: 1,327,000 total viewer

Fox reported on it live...the gentleman with the nightstick was escorted off by police...

Funny how the one guy left without the nightstick denied that there was anyone around with a nightstick...also, funny how the guy doesn't want a camera around because it is supposed to be a peaceful atmosphere...

I don't really care for the end of the world stuff that all 3 of the major networks do. MSNBC may be even worse than Fox at it. But I think I'm slowly completely quitting on MSNBC.

It's pretty much the way they treat anyone that has an opinion different than the plants they have come on to express the views of Mr Murdock and the folks who sit around and think it's respectable journalism. Spitzer interviewing Mohamed Morsey of the Muslim Brotherhood. Mo says he has no connections to Al Queda and denounces any violence.

He really needs to work on his English as he sounds very upset and afraid he's being trapped. He denounces even violence towards Israel although his denouncement said we denounce all violence towards anyone. He wouldn't come right out and say Israel. Kind of how Arafat used to do.

First, given all the hooplah, I followed Beck's research trail on some things and though I have never watched consistently, he often makes a valid point. He is, however, an opinionated commentator...so I wouldn't recommend him for unbiased news viewing.

Bret Baer(?) is good. Cavuto is great. Stossel on Fox Business has an awesome libertarian bent. Also, the whole mid day block is pretty solid on Fox. Except Sheppard Smith, dude weirds me out, and he's always going on about Oxford, Miss.

I don't really care for Glenn Beck. I liked him more when he was going on about the history of the US. Especially the stuff on black history that nobody talks about. But outside of that I really don't care for any of his stuff on the current government. It's probably just as corrupt and wrong as the Bush administration was.

I like Special Report with Bret Baeir simply for the panel. Especially Charles Krauthammer. He's probably more of a neo-con but still I love a lot of what he says.

They seriously need Stossell on Fox News. I don't have FBN but I try and watch his shows on youtube as much as possible. As a libertarian which I am his shows are a must watch. I loved his Battle for the Future: Makers vs Takers last year.
