...what news source(s) would you recommend to get the truly fair and balanced information that isn't skewed by any special interest?

Please don't post if you plan on placing only Foxnews or MSNBC as your source. :D KPlzThx!!!

Keep em coming friends. I usually will listen to NPR, check out both Foxnews and CNN websites as well as AP.

So if you are liberal with your ire for "libs," does that make for an ironic case of self-loathing in a liberal way?

their news from late night comedy shows, and I just want to say one thing

I usually try and watch CNN and then turn over to FOX to get the real info.....oh.....and to watch the wimmins on FOX..... :D

Jon Stewart is funny to watch.....he distorts a lot...but that is why he is funny. I was in the area and went to his show once. He warms up the crowd before and he is funny as hell.

I hope you aren't serious about Fox. You do know that Fox won a court case on appeal by arguing that there is no rule against distorting or falsifying the news in the United States.

This is a thread for listing sources, not lambasting them. I'm sure if you have enough posts you can start one of those. :)

Thanks.

I try basically every source. However, I normally stay away from cable news networks on tv. The only time I watch them is if something big is happening. Then I switch between all of them and try to separate the BS from actual news and piece together a semi-accurate report in my head.

Silly Thread!

All new sources are "manned" by human beings.
ALL human beings have bias of some sort.
Bias is something that results when your belief system, over a period of time, eventually affects what you think, what you say, and where you go for news or companionship.
To even think that you are "unbias" is being disengenuous.

I am conservative, and therefore biased to the "right"!
When I do watch liberal leaning news, it doesn't but take minutes before their bias is confirmed, and I go away.
The BBC is no different! I love classical music in the mornings, and have to suffer through the new reports from the BBC or NPR.
*When the BBC reports on something "political" in the U.S., the reporting and story usually leans left - socialistsic. The headline, the voice intonations, and "drift" of the story will be left in that case. I expect that, and put up with it.
Their regular reporting on world news is OK.

Agree with Phil, probably CNN is about as fair as any.
FOX leans to the right in general - BUT...(unlike the drive-by media) it does allow discussion on both sides. Thus, "you decide".

I appreciate your candor, and, yes, all media has some sort of bias as does all philosophy (or any perception of reality for that matter).

I suppose it would be ideal to find the media source that gives all the information with out any translation, but even where one chooses to place a camera is a bias.

Perhaps those who makes it a regular habit to try and disclose any and all sources of their own biases make for the most reliable of sources.

I believe you should use as many as possible and then make up your mind. As some have said....they are all biased and all of us have our own opinions and agendas. If you are going to try and find fair and balanced...I think you have to listen and read lots of stories, opinions and a bit of history. There are very few original ideas falling off the tree anymore....you should get as much information as you can....see if it's been tried before and then try and decide if the idea was before it's time, new or just another way of putting something off until it's time. So many opinions and ideas have been tried before and so many of these folks are educated in the history of politics and the art of deception and debate. You just have to understand how difficult it's going to be to find a real Leader. Our system was desinged to keep people from being the Executive for more than 8 years and the real folks how can make a difference seem to stay in power way to long and States posture themselves so that they have the best representation for their State by having a State Leader in office for a long time.

When Ted Kennedy's Senate Seat opened you could tell just how important his seat opening was to people from around the Nation. Amazing how One Man can have so much power and affect so many things and not be President. I know many around here didn't like him but it was amazing that he was able to stay in office for so long considering all that happened to the Kennedy Family over the years. The Pubs went after that seat with a guy in a pickup that had been a Porn Star and he won. Talk about change. It will be interesting to see how many decades they'll be able to have that office.

Again...educate yourself and then listen. So many folks are running around stating what they think is best and they really don't have a clue what to do. I know I don't. I believe in this country though. We always seem to come out on top when backed up against the wall. Hopefully we'll all become closer during the next few years instead of continue to argue and try to confuse each other for personal gain.

If you've got the coin, the best source for Asia is Far East Economic Review, but they're damn pricey now that they went pure internet subscription. I haven't really found a decent teevee source in general, though the Beeb tends to be a bit more adult than most US-based coverage. A lot more news, a lot less 'cat-up-tree' or 'giving-back-to-the-community' coverage.

OK Johnny Mack!
Last week a hundred thousand people (or more, possibly) showed up for the annual Right To Life March in D.C. on a bitterly cold day. This year, the crowd was largely young adults!
How was this story covered by the LameStream mediacs?
It did make the Metro secrtion of the Washington Post.
Compare this to how the popular media covers Pro-Death events! (aka Pro-"Choice")
Thank GOD (and Rupert Murdoch) for alternative news media!
Otherwise, we'd not get all (or both sides of) the story!
