I'm out of the loop. I had heard back in August maybe Bob Carpenter (great radio voice).

Just wondering.

Last I heard BBSr was maybe gonna go ahead and work one more year before going to work full-time for ESPN.

Bob Carpenter would be great. That piece sure looks like one leaked by OU to get us talking. I wonder if Keith Jackson might return to do color. Seems I have seen him around Norman a couple times this year during football season despite him doing color radio for the Hogs.

Thought Jackson wasn't doing the Hog color anymore. I followed them a little last year because my daughter is in school up there - could be wrong but pretty sure he didn't last year.

Jim Ross all the way.....he bleeds Oklahoma football. He use to be the Atlanta Falcons play by play man back in the day.

I can hear it now... " Mack Brown is crying the SOB he is!"

He wouldnt say that...but I can dream.

If that happens OU will be the laughing stock of college football.

I'd love to have Ron Franklin.

Why would Jim Ross make us a laughing stock? His knowledge of OU football is second to absolutely no one. He has experience calling play by play action that is second to none. He is no less qualified than ANY candidate.

I think Ross would be a good choice, especially if he would do the game from some crappy sideline table that every once in a while a player comes crashing onto.

I lol'd.

As funny as this is, I think he could actually be a really great radio guy. And besides, I dont give a rats a$$ if a team makes fun of our radio because all I'll have to say is "scoreboard" or "seven" or "five".

like BBS hadn't already made OU play by play the laughing stock. Anything other than Mark Rodgers is a step up

If Ross is so good at play by play why isn't he still doing it?

Look I like JR as much as the next Sooner fan... but it seems pretty dumb to replace an old guy that can't talk with an old guy that can't talk.

Not to mention that it just doesn't fit the model right now. You guys need to think BIGGER PICTURE.

We aren't just hiring the radio voice for football. Keep in mind that OU is actively working to start their own network. This person, more than likely, will be the voice and television image of OU via the new OU network, not just the radio play by play guy. It's going to be someone that is a broadcaster in the much larger sense... someone that can not only represent OU football, but carry an entire university network.

It was offered to a high school guy here in Georgia last year, but he turned it down. They wanted him to come in and teach in the media department at OU and then work into the position as BB worked his way out, but Randy said no because he didn't want to pick up his family and move them to Oklahoma away from the rest of their families and friends.

Some of his work thru the years, he is the main man on these.

Wonder if Merv Johnson stays on board, regardless? I kinda hope so. I like Merv. Even some devout Longhorn fans who listed to OU broadcasts said they wish they'd have a Merv type in their broadcast booth also. Merv is a no frills, tell it like it is, knowledgeable guy. Heck, I think he's had about every CFB coaching job one can have.
