Going into a new season I think the base will be keeping an eye on the place kicker situation. Jimmy Stevens was inconsistent this past season, and OU had a lot of kickers on scholarship more than any other division one program. I have heard rumors that the Eason kid was battling some kind of chronic stomach illness, but he should be pretty good, so you think there is a chance we can finally find a clutch kicker like we had with Hartley?

Stevens played very well down the stretch. And his season stats aren't as bad as you think...

19-23 FG 53-53 on PATS, not that inconsistent if you ask me. Now, his range is another thing...

Stevens kicks a low ball, and a weak ball. Anything outside of 40 is dicey. He's the last kicker in America I'd want to count on for a game winner.

In Jimmy i trust.
That sounded kinda wierd.
Jimmy did OK this year. But like S13 said, his range is just not there, so anything outside the 30 is a gamble. He put up a few wounded duck pat's this year that made my heart pause before they went through. The fg's that he missed did not surprise me. A few that he made, did surprise me.

Jimmy holds a national record for FG's made in high school I believe. He also made a 52 yarder in HS. I wonder where his range went???

If Jimmy could improve his range, he could be an all-conference kicker. I was a kicker of about the same size as Jimmy (5'7", 160), and I could get it there from about 60 in HS (20 years ago). It can be done, and I did it without state-of-the-art training facilities and a guy like Schmitty. A lot of it is confidence. Some of Jimmy's kicks from about 35 this year looked like they could go a good bit farther. When he hits those worm-burners, I guarantee he's not following through. If he concentrates on following through, which he can, he can hit those longer FGs; however, I don't think he will be a good KO guy because that is a different skill set that I actually think that Paddy is better suited.
