I was curious what our percentage was this season, so I checked it on ESPN. We're shooting 35.0 percent. I was curious how that compared to recent years so I checked them as well. Last year we shot 35.0 percent. The year before that we shot 35.1 percent. The year before that we shot 34.8 percent. I just felt that was odd, and wanted to share that with you guys for some reason.

I'm thinking 35 percent as a team isn't to awful.

08-09, our 35.1% had us ranked 120th. One percentage point higher would've moved us up about 40 spots (tied with Texas A&M among others).

Cal led the way with 42.7% and OSU was in the Top 25.

At first glance, it looks like we were 30th among teams that are in the football AQ conferences.

actually 35% isn't horrific...it's amazing what 1 or 2 % points moves ya to...like sprints....#1 and #100 are less than half a second apart...

This probably isn't the most statistically accurate way of doing this, but if you break the group into 3rds with the upper third being above average, the middle being average and the lower third below average, then with 275 teams in 08-09, our 120th ranking would put us in the average category (each section would be made up of roughly 92 teams). Liberty was at #92 with 35.9%.

Since percentage points are so tricky...as jeepman pointed out...here's how it looks in actual numbers.

We shot 689 threes in 08-09, and made 242. East Carolina also shot 689, but they made 261 (19 more than us), for 37.9%. They were ranked 34th in that statistic.

Here's the "What If" stat that is most incredible to me...if we would've converted one more missed 3-pointer per game (meaning 36 more makes without any more attempts), we would've shot 40.3% which would've had us tied with UC Irvine at 7th. Just by changing one shot per game we move up 113 spots.

like I said earlier as well...we had a better post presence...so missed 3 pt shots didn't hurt as much because we got some offensive rebounds for "put-backs"...if I had to guess...

now without those opportunities our misses convert to an offensive opp for the other team....

course this is all just my opinion...be interesting to find those stats out...lots of film to watch!!!
