While they have yet to coach a single regular-season down in their new jobs, two members of Bob Stoops‘ Oklahoma coaching staff are already in line to receive fairly substantial bumps in pay.

According to the Daily Oklahoman, co-offensive coordinators Josh Heupel and Jay Norvell, pending approval from the school’s board of regents, will receive an increase in pay for 2011.

Both coordinators will make $330,000 this year. Heupel made $250,000 as OU’s quarterbacks coach last year, while Norvell earned $255,000 as wide receivers coach/assistant offensive coordinator.

Heupel and Norvell were promoted by Stoops after Kevin Wilson left to become Indiana’s head coach. Wilson earned $430,000 as OU’s coordinator last season.

Good for them. I still think they are underpaid.

Yeah, that does seem a little low; I really thought both guys would be bumped to $400k. They should add in an incentive package if they get to a BCS game they get $50k, if they win a BCS game another $50k. If they win a national title then they could make a max of $500k. This would be similar to NFL contract escalators that are designed to reward performance.

^^ I agree. It's not as if we don't have the money to pay for success.

In the end, it will probably work out better financially for Heupel that he didn't go to the pros.
