my daughter got into the Naval Academy Prep School? That means she applied for the Naval Academy, she has the credentials and they want her to go there, but her ACT score was a little low. They still think she's an excellent candidate, so they are sending her to the Prep School in Rhode Island for a year, then she will start the USNA in fall 2012. She will work on her math and science mostly, learn military history, marching and do a lot of PT. She makes all A's and B's in honors Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Calculus, so I know she's capable. She turned 18 yesterday. She's graduating with honors this spring, and she was also homecoming queen.

And my son, he has been admitted to OU med school. He is graduating with Honors from Oklahoma City University in May, he's engaged to his high school sweetheart, who is also an honors student at OCU. she is on track to graduate in 3 years, she will start law school a year after my son starts med school and they will graduate the same year. My son wants to go to residency for pediatrics, and she wants to study oil & gas law. They are getting married in June, 2012 and will probably start giving me grandchildren. about 9 months after that.

All in all, I think I did a pretty damn good job helping my kids become productive members of society. So if you don't mind, I'm going to give myself a pat on the back.

Congrats, Brat. We were stationed in Newport for 4 years, my son was born there, actually. It's a beautiful little town, lots of stuff to do, and they treat the NAPSters pretty well, I think. The beaches are allsome in the summer, and the winters weren't too bad when we were there. It's on an island, so the temps are more moderate than in Boston, which is an hour north.

You'll have to plan lots of visits, Newport is in a great spot--close to Boston, Cape Cod, 4 or so hours to Kennebunkport, ME, which is a great little town, and 3 hours from Manhattan. PM me if you want more info, since she has Navy privileges, you can stay in the Q on nearby bases for dirt cheap.
