Interesting, what ya think?

Poor Losur, below Colorado and KU in percent of capacity/game. That's some funny stuff. :D :P

The NCAA's latest attendance figures are out, and here's how the Big 12 teams fared:

Accumulated Attendance (total)

Teams preceded by national ranking:

No. 5: Texas (704,580; seven games)
No. 10: Nebraska (599,648, seven games)
No. 11: Texas A&M (577,338; seven games)
No. 18: Oklahoma (508,426; six games)
No. 31: Missouri (369,240; six games)
No. 35: Oklahoma State (355,684; seven games)
No. 39: Texas Tech (342,647; six games)
No. 44: Iowa State (317,767; seven games)
No. 46: Kansas (313,955; seven games)
No. 48: Kansas State (298,897; six games)
No. 54: Colorado (281,182; six games)
No. 65: Baylor (240,259; six games)

Thoughts: You can't tell a ton from these numbers, considering the variation in home schedules and stadium size, but it's a good indicator of why some programs have the reputations they do and the budgets they do. Neutral-site attendance from games like the Red River Rivalry, Border Showdown and Kansas State-Iowa State aren't factored into these numbers.

Average Attendance Per Game

No. 5: Texas - 100,654
No. 11: Nebraska - 85,664
No. 12: Oklahoma - 84,738
No. 13: Texas A&M - 82,477
No. 26: Missouri - 61,540
No. 32: Texas Tech - 57,108
No. 41: Oklahoma State - 50,812
No. 43: Kansas State - 49,816
No. 49: Colorado - 46,864
No. 54: Iowa State - 45,395
No. 55: Kansas - 44,851
No. 61: Baylor - 40,043

Thoughts: Texas was one of just five schools to top six digits, but anyone who watched a few of the late-season games from Austin knows the actual attendance was probably a bit inflated. They're not the only school to do it, of course, but most attendance numbers everywhere seem more reflective of tickets sold. Anyway, percentage filled is the best indicator of success when it comes to ticket sales, so here are those numbers.

Percentage Of Capacity

No. 4: Texas Tech (106.2)
No. 5: Nebraska (105.67)
No. 7: Oklahoma (103.2)
No. 12: Texas (100.53)
No. 21: Kansas State (99.63)
No. 23: Texas A&M (99.37)
No. 47: Missouri (90.04)
No. 49: Kansas (89.26)
No. 50: Colorado (87.14)
No. 59: Oklahoma State (84.38)
No. 63: Iowa State (82.58)
No. 67: Baylor (80.09)

Thoughts: Lots to chew on in this section. Texas Tech touted its ticket sales numbers all preseason, and these returns reflect a good sign for the beginning of the Tommy Tuberville Era in Lubbock. Having a new stadium helps, too, but both times I went to games at Tech this year, the stands were packed and the fans were jacked. Tuberville has a lot going for him early on there -- great attendance, ticket sales and recruiting -- and they're hoping big wins will follow. The Red Raiders won't be fully loaded this year, but they've definitely got things to be excited about. Nebraska and Oklahoma are about what you'd expect. Those tickets have been and will be tough to get for a long time. I wouldn't put too much stock in the Oklahoma State percentage numbers. It's a calculated, controversial and high-profile move by the athletic program to limit premium game tickets to season-ticket holders. It hurts their attendance numbers and has empty seats show up for big games, but it's been a boon to the program's bottom line.
:D

Does anyone have similar stats from last season, reflecting total attendance, per game and percentage of capacity? It would be fun to compare from past years, as I really think Baylor improved their attendance this year, whereas Tech probably tanked. Kansas too, likely.

The article was implying that Tech had their best year in a while cause of stadium renovations and new coach.

Edit: Or maybe that was in the comments, idk where I read it cause it's not in the article.

OK, here are 2009 figures:

Texas... 101,175 (100,654)
Nebraska... 85,888 (85,664)
Oklahoma... 84,778 (84,738)
Texas A&M... 76,800 (82,477)
Missouri... 64,120 (61,540)
Oklahoma State... 53,719 (50,812)
Kansas... 50,581 (44,851)
Texas Tech... 50,249 (57,108)
Colorado... 50,088 (46,864)
Kansas State... 46,763 (49,816)
Iowa State... 46,242 (45,395)
Baylor... 36,306 (40,043)

I am not sure how many home games each team has, just throwing out the first numbers I found. The parenthesis numbers are the 2010 stats given by jumper.

WITHOUT KNOWING HOW MANY GAMES EACH TEAM HOSTED COMPARING THE TWO YEARS, here is who went up and who went down (and estimates on how much):

Down: Texas (1k), Oklahoma (40ish), Nebbish (200ish) Mizzou (3k), Pokes (3k), KU (6k), CU (3k) ISU (1k)

Up: A&M (6k), Tech (7k), Baylor (4k), KSU (3k)

Yeah i went to the A&M game in Austin on thanksgiving day cause my brother is an aggie (wore an OU beanie, wasn't the only guy wearing OU gear) and the Numbers are definitely inflated for attendance in Austin.

I know we all like to raise our eyebrows at empty Austin stadiums that claim 100k attendance, but the moment we demand they differentiate ticket sales from actual attendance is the moment we start also questioning in-game attendance when Austin fans trickle in by the second quarter and leave at halftime (exclaiming on the way out to any idiot that will listen, "If Colt played, we woulda won!")

The most you can hope for in a fanbase is consistency, and considering that our home attendance only changed about 40ish per game from last season to this season, that's awesome.

I was in attendance in Austin for the epic Iowa State game, you know, one of the murder's row teams and that was early on and the entire visitor's upper deck was empty, so I say VERY inflated.

We need a 100,000 seat stadium.

Why can't we get seven home games?

Why can't we get seven home games?

Number one. We have one game a year played in Dallas. That now leaves 11 games. We were playing 4 OOC games, but one is always against a biggie and we play home and home, so every year we have an away game at the home of a biggie. That left just 3 home games against OOC teams. Since Texas, a conference game is on a neutral field that leaves 7 conference games. 3 at home and 4 on the road. Only a couple of times has OU had 7 home games. OSU had 8 home games this year. Neb regulary has 8 home games. Neb usually won't schedule a home and home. Plus Neb usually doesn't schedule a big time team. Looking ahead it looks like OU will have 6 home games for the forseeable future.

Why? We barely "sell out" what we got now.

Boy, the Tech fans are sure teaching their school's administration a harsh lesson.

The big question is why does * only have 4 true road games?

In 2010 they were the "visiting team" for the OU game so it counted as one of their "away games" in the Big 12 schedule of 8 games. So they really only had three away games this season. When they are the "home team" in Dallas they have another conference road game.

2010 - 7 Home Games, 3 Away Conf. Games
at Rice (Reliant), this is pretty much an off-site home game.
Wyoming
UCLA
Florida Atlantic

2009 - 6 Home Games, 4 Away Conf. Games
UL-Monroe
at Wyoming, an away game they pretty much figured to win
UTEP
UCF

2008 - 7 Home Games, 3 Away Conf. Games
FAU
at UTEP
Rice
Arkansas

2007 - 6 Home Games, 4 Away Conf. Games
Arkansas State
TCU
at UCF
Rice

2006 - 7 Home Games, 3 Away Conf. Games
North Texas
Ohio State
at Rice
Sam Houston State

2005 - 11 Game season: 5 Home Games, 4 Away Conf. Games
UL-Lafayette
at Ohio State
Rice

Keep in mind empty seats don't necessarily translate into non-ticket sales. Those empty seats may have been "guaranteed" or corporately purchased, which counts toward a "sellout". I wonder how much it costs ole Boone everytime OsU plays at home?

empty seats means somebody didn't buy any cokes & dogs, didn't eat @
campus corner or pay to park.

mostly, the only way fans can show true displeasure with a team is to NOT
go to the game. that is part of what happened to john blake.

why would it cost Pickens anything when osu plays @ home ??
for tickets he bought ?? he probly gets all he wants for free. he deserves
them, after having given 300 to 400 mil to the school.

he has given lots of money to other schools.

Every time stadium expansion gets brought up people begin talking about demand not being there. Of course, I don't know where this info come from, but if we consistently exceed capacity shouldn't there be another 5,000 people wanting to get in? I don't see a problem with a 90,000-95,000 seat stadium.

I think we were the home team in Dallas this year too, which may have limited our permissible home games if there is any such restriction.

it's not that it's a limit, right? just that we have a conference game that would have been a home game that's in Dallas instead

as far as i know, there isn't anything keeping us from having all our OOC games at home

When you can still buy a ticket to a decent game outside the stadium for at or under face value, there is not enough demand to warrant any expansion. I don't care how many people are on the waiting list, anyone truly wanting season tickets would already have them. The waiting list is composed of folks who won't pay any donation or are happy to buy tickets outside and just never requested they be dropped from the list.
