I was watching Coach Carter today, and it got me thinking about what are the essential sports movies. Some of the first ones I thought of were Bang the Drum Slowly, Brian's Song, and The Natural.

Good list. I'd have to add "Rudy" to the list even thought I dislike Notre Dame with a passion. Still a feel good story for hard work in this country.

In my eyes sports movies are sort of lame and predictable; I don't go out of my way to watch them.

That said, I like Rocky and Hoosiers...

I agree, just watched it last night.

Sweet. It's never mentioned anywhere. I've only seen it once and thought it was really good, esp for a sports movie. I'm about ready to check it again, I hope its as good as I remember.

The Lou Gherig story, Major League, Knute Rockne All American, Hoosiers and one from a couple years ago.... it has the guy from Burn Notice playing a girls basketball coach out near OKC in the 50's...good show and a true story.
