ESPN: Cale Gundy among nation’s best recruiters

ESPN unveiled its top five recruiters in the country. Hard to argue with their No. 2 selection, OU running backs coach Cale Gundy.
The former Sooner QB has been a dynamic recruiter the last decade since joining on Bob Stoops’ staff.
“Some might argue that anyone could recruit in a gridiron-obsessed state that also happens to border the Lone Star State, which is the greatest football factory of them all,” Ryan McGee writes. “But it is still no small task to compete with the Texas Longhorns, not to mention the growing influence of the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Still, Gundy continues to hold his own. And since the former Sooners QB took over recruiting duties in 2005, he has managed to stretch the corners of OU’s search net beyond the southwest. Last year he stunned the SEC, ACC, and Pac-10 by snatching up three four-star recruits out of Southern California, along with landing blue-chip running back Roy Finch from the Florida panhandle.”
Gundy has added another big-time back to his stable in 5-star prospect Brandon Williams, who enrolled in school this week to participate in spring practice. In addition to also reeling in Finch, Williams, Brennan Clay and former 5-star DeMarco Murray — the school’s career TD record holder — Gundy recruited to OU a receiver you might have heard of by the name of Ryan Broyles, who barring injury, could bring down several NCAA receiving marks next season.
The Sooners have been dynamic offensively in the Stoops era, and Gundy’s recruiting is as big a reason why as any.
